That skill was made to heal others, so it would usually concentrate wherever the damage was located, and all its properties would focus there. With nothing to heal, Rean's 'good feelings' property of his Light Element was amplified many times on top of the huge burst of Light Element he sent initially, and even poor Saria couldn't resist it.
