A crippling sense of disappointment was not the best feeling to wake up to. It was especially heavy until the residues of sleep faded and Neveah became aware of her surroundings.
The weight of Xenon's arm around her waist kept her rooted in this moment, preventing a spiral, moreso than he would ever realize. And understanding the intricacy of their bond, Neveah knew she did much the same for him.
Xenon was already awake, for how long he had been, she was not certain. His hand stroked her hair in comforting gestures like he had been before she drifted off, and his breaths were slow and lulling.
She was practically laying on him too, down to her midriff and Neveah could not help a sheepish smile.
"Did you get any sleep?" Neveah asked, shifting so she could stare up at Xenon who watched her. His gaze exuded a tenderness so potent, she was humbled to be on the receiving end.
