Erik's smartphone woke him the following day. Still connected to the device, he didn't need to pick it up to know who was calling—only a few people had his number, making the caller easy to guess. Though the name didn't leave space for guesses.
"Hello? Uncle Ben?"
"Hey Erik, I hope I didn't wake you up!"
"Uh… No. Don't worry."
But he was internally screaming.
"Good then. Look, I heard you joined a competition at school. Why didn't you tell me anything?"
"I'm sorry, Uncle Ben, but I had a lot of things to do during these days, and I completely forgot..."
Of course, he didn't tell him on purpose. He didn't know if he could trust the man, and having him around was only going to make things worse.
"Never mind, then... So, when is your next match scheduled?"
"Today at 11:00."
"Mind if I come?"
"O-of course not! Come to school; behind the main building, there is a ring. The matches will be held there..."
