Major Fischer was walking along New Alexandria's hospital's corridors in search of room 584. He had been sent there to talk to a soldier who was recently attacked by a group of thaids during a mission.
The man lost consciousness as soon as he arrived back in the city, so he didn't have the time to report what happened. However, things were severe as his entire team had been killed, which wasn't something that would have had to happen given the kind of mission the army gave them.
Thaids were dangerous if one didn't know how to handle them or if people went on stirring the hornet's nest, which wasn't what the team had to do.
Upon entering, he found a soldier lying on a bed, missing an arm and bearing various severe injuries. The man was awaiting healing treatment, hoping the army would hire a healer to regenerate his lost limb.
The problem was that growing limbs back was not easy, and healers asked for astronomical amounts of money to make such a procedure.
