However, for Erik and the other students, it wasn't much more than an open field with some rocks scattered around.
The open field meant they were completely exposed, making them easy targets with no way to break the line of sight or create tactical advantages.
Their pursuers would have a clear view of their movements, and the vast space meant they could be easily surrounded or cornered with no natural barriers to use as a means of defense.
