Passing by the leech sculpture relief over the gate, Sugiura arrived at the dining hall with her daughter.
Near mealtime now, the dining hall was already bustling with some Songze people.
Everyone seemed elated.
Plates had been laid out on the tables, covered with slippery black raw meat slices.
"Mommy, I'm hungry."
Haruna tugged at Sugiura's hand, her face beaming with a smile.
"Let's eat."
Sugiura Kumiko sat down with her daughter at a table; the Songze people beside them were eating with juices running down their chins but still took the time to greet the mother and daughter.
She looked at the food on the table. The chunks of meat seemed to be twitching and writhing.
Sugiura felt nauseous, no matter how many times she saw it; she still felt sick.
The Songze people, who devoured these things with relish, were they really still human?
"Mommy, let's eat."
