War was a money-burner, not only during preparation and actual conflict but also afterwards, necessitating large funds for an array of war-related expenditures. These included post-war reconstruction, demobilization, compensation and resettlement, troop stationing, local security, the circulation of goods, market stabilization, industrial structure reorganization… One could say that the end of war was just the beginning of a series of problems.
