As my mother's only boy child, as I grew up, I always thought that everything would be given to me automatically. After all, wasn't that how it worked?
Unfortunately, I learnt it the hard way. My mother wasn't the typical stupid woman who was confused and pressured by the patriarchal concept.
A lot of women tend to favor their male children since they would continue the family's bloodline. Girls at some point would be married off, so they were bad investments. That's what I heard some men talking about when I was a child.
So, I confronted my mother who always treated me and my sister like that. Thanks to that, I couldn't leave the bed for a few days after receiving a thrashing from her.
"In my eyes, you are both my flesh and blood. I gave birth to you and what I do with what I have is none of your business. Besides, my mother, I am also a woman. Are you telling me right in my face that me, who feeds, cloth you are useless?"
