Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: It wasn't real.

Mariam's hands trembled as she set her tears free. She couldn't control it, no matter how hard she fought it she couldn't hold in the heat coming from her throat nor the blur vision.

Her body shook violently as she made her way back to the door to lock it. It felt like her heart was aching. Her chins quivered violently, still shaking her head, refusing to believe all that had happened.

She opened her purse and brought out her phone. Maybe it was all an illusion...she went back to check their previous chat, she had two unread messages from him.

Without hesitation, her trembling fingers tapped the messages with hopes that it was just an act and everything would be better soon, her heart will finally have breathing space and not the whole chokiness.

It read....

~*I'm sorry it had to end like this.*

~* I should have told you about this all along but it wasn't real and now it's over.*

Bringing herself to finally read the end of the text, her cries stopped for some while as she re-read the message. What did he mean by it wasn't real, what wasn't real? Their relationship?

Realization hit her. Has it been a game all along?.. no it couldn't be. The love this man had shown her was a scarce love.

It wasn't a fake love, he was free with her and was always there to give her any damn support no matter the time she needed it, he cared for her even if it risked his life. There's no way this relationship could be a fake.

Is he maybe under threat?

It doesn't matter, what matters now is that it's over. Her eyes closed as she let her tears flow free this time around small sobs slipped her lips. "How could it be over! Not even an explanation?"

She banged her fist on the ceramic, earning a sore spot. " How could it be...*Triple-sob*...over!"

She didn't know how much time she spent in the restroom, her mind was blank and her chest felt heavy like she still had more tears to release, even though her throat wasn't burning any less.

Taking all the time she needed to absorb the shock, she didn't know how many hours had passed by but she did know it would be more than an hour now.

"It's not true so why are my feelings broken? It's just a prank." She muttered trying to give herself courage as she stood up wiping her tears. She peeped at the mirror, her make up was ruined. Thank goodness it wasn't a heavy one.

She got some tissues and wiped them all off with water and applied new makeup that looked more simple and natural than the last one and probably even more beautiful. It suited her current breakdown and gave her a strange beauty.

One thing she couldn't eliminate was the red eyes, she spent extra time in the restroom waiting patiently for it to go white again but unfortunately her throat was speaking other wise and no matter what her eyes kept welling up with tears and even became more reddish instead of getting whiter

By the time she was able to calm herself down in the littlest way she could, she got out of the restroom, shutting the doors closed, all her weak side were buried behind the white doors.

Her sassiness and arrogance was back but taking a closer look at it, it was much weaker now. She hated the fact that a man made her loose face in public that way. She had never seen or heard of a celebrity who had a public breakup like that. He's such a hypocrite. What a surprise breakup.

Her tears were forcing its way back, she had to support herself by resting her palm on the wall.

'Mariam, you can do this. This is your dream and this is your second chance to collect it...Calm *breathe in* down *breathe out*"

With that, she returned back to the main hall where the event was being held. When Nemah sighted her, he heaved a sigh of relief, her eyes glanced at him then lasted a little while on the two couples who were sitting so close and intimate to each other.

She watched as Maybel leaned in and kissed his chin, her eyes drew away, that was enough. Her pale face went even paler, all thanks to the makeup that was doing a job well done with covering her weak side.

How could they feel so okay and comfortable while she was shattered.

The next step she took was a weak one and almost stumbled and fell but gained her balance at once. Nemah rushed towards her and opened his mouth to say something but her words stopped him.

"I'm fine," she said lifelessly and walked past him before walking a little further to their seat and sat beside Naomi.

Anyone who sees her right now would say she's perfectly fine but not Nemah who had seen her break down before.

"You don't look fine, I think you should leave and let Naomi take over, you'll only be disgracing yourself even further by staying here." Nemah pointed out as he sat beside her.

"That would be more disgraceful to my name and career." She replied and gulped down enough water to calm her tears.

Nemah swallowed his words and brought the phone before he started to operate it. Mariam was focusing blankly on the program while Naomi was taking meek glances at Namah who seemed less concerned with the program.

"I'm excited for the award" Maybel smiled innocently, tugging at Henry's sleeve gently.

"I know, and you know our agreement." He said and she nodded slowly while pouting.

"I already promised you. I'm not going to get involved with her, it isn't good for the baby." She gave a small smile and he nodded.

"Hmph, she-devil." K°K Bee scoffed not too far away. Everyone knows how cunning Maybel can be. Not like she cares about their problems anyways.

The program, like every other, reached its point of gathering. The awards weren't far from being announced. The whole room tensed up but some were able to cover it up perfectly

Mariam regained her focus back when the announcement about the awards were made. Slowly, she was able to get her distant mind adapted to her environment. Swears! She can't guarantee her shame level anymore.

It seems like her throat was starting to burn hard again, why does it seem like now that she has lost Henry and it's clear that she has indeed lost him she feels she'll lose the award too alongside the people around her.

Is there somewhere she has gone wrong?
