Jaylin trudged up the path to Javir's house, her body feeling like it had been run over by a cart. The ritual had drained her completely. Not physically, exactly, but mentally. Having all those memories flash through her mind at once had left her feeling hollowed out, like someone had scooped out her brain and put it back slightly wrong.
At least it was over. No more accidental glimpses into Margaret's sex life. No more inappropriate thoughts every time their hands brushed.
[Well, no more inappropriate memories to view, anyway,] Jaylin corrected herself. [The thoughts are probably here to stay.]
She pushed open the door, hoping to sneak straight to her room, but Margaret's voice called from the sitting room.
"Jaylin? Is that you?"
[So much for that plan.]
"Yeah," she replied, reluctantly changing direction. "Just got back from the academy."
