Chapter 42 - Hard decision

After they all agreed to the plan, they quickly began putting it into action. Onix's trainer took out its Pokeball and began whispering to it giving Onix clear instructions.

He told it to stay quiet when coming out and to immediately use Dig to go underground since its large body could easily expose their position.

Then, he threw the Pokeball, and Onix appeared, doing exactly as instructed. However, despite their efforts, the ground shook slightly.

Kay tensed up as he noticed that the two enemy trainers guarding the cave entrance also heard the noise.

They looked around cautiously but didn't dare to leave their position to investigate. The team remained hidden, holding their breath, hoping their plan would still work.

The other trainer then called out his Sandshrew to be ready to attack the moment Onix emerged.

Meanwhile, Ponyta's trainer hasn't summoned her Pokemon yet, knowing that its fiery mane will be too visible in the darkness.

Kay and his team waited in silence, like runners at the starting line, ready to charge forward as soon as Onix appeared.

Moments later, Onix resurfaced near the base of the mountain. It quickly stretched its body upward, biting onto the edge near the cave's entrance to create a stable path for its teammates.

Seeing the signal, Ponyta's trainer finally released it, and as soon as it appeared, Ponyta took off, galloping across Onix's back.

Eevee and Sandshrew followed right behind, but Ponyta, being the fastest, surged ahead, using Quick Attack to accelerate even more.

The trainers of Spearow and Metapod, who had been guarding the entrance, froze in confusion when they saw Onix suddenly emerge from underground and bite into the mountainside right beside them.

They were momentarily stunned, struggling to process the massive Pokemon's sudden appearance.

Their hesitation lasted only a moment. When they saw Ponyta racing toward them at full speed, they quickly snapped back to reality and shouted commands to their Pokemons.

"Spearow, use Gust!"

"Metapod, String Shot!"

The two Pokemon reacted instantly. Spearow flapped its wings, sending a strong gust of wind toward Ponyta, while Metapod shot out sticky silk in an attempt to slow it down. But Ponyta's trainer had already anticipated this.

"Ponyta, Flame Charge!" she commanded.

Ponyta's body ignited as it charged forward, moving even faster while burning away the String Shot.

It dashed past the wind attack and continued its relentless approach toward the entrance.

The enemy trainers realized they stood no chance of stopping it. Seeing the fast Pokemon coming at full speed, they made a quick decision.

Without wasting any more time, they recalled their Pokemons and ran inside the cave, retreating before they could be overwhelmed.

Kay was happy that his plan had worked just as he had hoped. Now, they had to decide what to do next.

"Now that we succeeded in pushing them inside the cave, we should quickly move to the next phase before they inform the other trainers inside and return," Kay said.

Before anything else, Kay told his team about the Bronze Stage Aerodactyl that he found inside the cave before and shared why he believed it was still there.

"The Pokemons in the cave are a herd of Aerodactyls. From what I had read before; even though Pokemons are not very different from the animals in our world, they still have some similar behaviors," Kay explained.

He paused for a moment to let his words sink in, then continued, "A herd of Aerodactyls would act like a herd of animals on many sides. And just like any other animal group, they always have a leader that is stronger than the rest."

One of the other trainers spoke up, nodding in agreement. "And the leader of the Aerodactyls would be the Bronze Stage Aerodactyl."

"Exactly!" Kay nodded. "And just like in the animal world, a leader doesn't leave its spot unless something very dangerous threatens its herd."

The female trainer of Ponyta thought for a moment before adding, "But on this island, the leader Aerodactyl is the only Bronze Stage Pokemon. That means there wouldn't be any threats strong enough to force it to leave its position."

"That's right," Kay replied. "So, the opponent team will find that the only Bronze stage Pokemon on this island was inside this cave."

Now that his teammates understood his point, Kay continued. "About ten minutes have passed since they entered the cave. I think they will reach the Aerodactyls any moment now. Do you have any suggestions on what we should do next?"

Sandshrew's trainer was the first to speak. "We should collapse the cave entrance on them while making noise. That way, they will be forced to fight the Aerodactyl herd that would wake up because of the noise caused by the destruction of the cave's entrance."

He then added, "This would eliminate the opponent team and also weaken the Aerodactyl herd, which would make it easier for us to capture the Aerodactyl with the red mark."

As soon as he finished, the other team members' expressions darkened. They were clearly shocked by how brutal his suggestion was. A heavy silence followed as they struggled to process what he had just said.

After a few moments, Kay spoke up again, trying to break the silence. "I agree with this idea, and I have two reasons for it. First, when the organizers told us that we would be 'eliminated' if we lost the game, we didn't know what they really meant. It could be something serious."

He took a deep breath before continuing. "The second reason is what happened to the other members of the investigation team; the ones I told you were captured by the opponent team. When I found them, they were tied to a tree, but I didn't see their Pokemons anywhere. I'm afraid that their Pokemons were killed."

His teammates were shocked. "Killed?" one of them whispered.

Kay's voice grew colder. "When I was spying on the other team earlier, I heard one of them say that they were eating Pidgey meat. But this island only has Rock-Type Pokemons, so where would a Pidgey come from?"

Realization dawned on them. "The Pidgey must have belonged to one of the captured trainers," one of them muttered.

Kay nodded without adding any words leaving the team members thinking about their choices.

At first, Kay didn't think that they could be brutal to the degree that they would eat a trainer's Pokemon, but later he remembered what the masked man said before; 'The island contained the Pokemons from a Rock-type dungeon break'

After hearing what Kay had said, all of them now understood that if they didn't act first, they might be the ones to suffer.

If they didn't fight back, they could be the ones who ended up eliminated, or worse.

It only took a few moments for them to decide. They all agreed to go with the first plan suggested by the Sandshrew trainer.

Without wasting any more time, they ordered their Pokemons to attack.

"Onix, use Hyper Beam!"

"Ponyta, use Fire Blast!"

"Sandshrew, use Mud Shot!"

"Eevee, use Swift!"

Eevee's Swift sent a wave of glowing stars flying into the cave. The bright light would wake up the Aerodactyls and make them alert.

At the same time, Onix's Hyper Beam, Ponyta's Fire Blast, and Sandshrew's Mud Shot all hit the cave entrance at full power.

The force of the combined attacks was too much for the already weak cave walls to handle.

With a loud boom, the entrance collapsed instantly, sending dust and debris flying everywhere.

The impact was so strong that the noise echoed throughout the cave, reaching deep inside where the Aerodactyls were resting.

For a moment, everything was silent.

Then, from inside the cave, a chorus of angry screeches and roars erupted. The Aerodactyls were awake.
