Chapter 25 - Yapping with bestie

It's 8 AM. The sun just came out a while ago, and I and Yuki are already meeting up in front of our apartment complex. Even through a strong frost covering the roads, sun rays are shining bright, covering the greyish building we just left. It's minus 2 degrees outside, and the cold, scentless air makes my nose runny. I always forget to bring tissues, but Yuki is always here to save me. She hands me one, and we set off on our way to a local convenience store down the street.

Her hair flies behind her as we walk, the chilly air hitting our faces, making our cheeks turn pink.

Yuki is wearing a grey miniskirt with warm tights and white leg warmers. Her hands are once again buried in her light puffer jacket, and her ears are preserving warmth with white, fluffy ear muffles. I, on the other hand, went with a simple black puffer and a pair of blue baggy jeans, a white scarf keeping my neck warm and creating a cosy place for my freezing nose to snuggle in.

We started a conversation about the first snow, the main reason we decided to hang out today.

"We waited so long, yet it decided to snow when we weren't together" Yuki sighs sadly. We were waiting on the balcony, behind the window, observing outside from our wooden school benches, yet we missed to experience it together. "Did you at least enjoy it?" She asks and looks at me, with a somewhat sorrowful expression. "I thought of you when it was snowing" I say "But yeah, I enjoyed it. A lot actually" I try to sound nonchalant, but keep my excitement at the same time. As expected, Yuki's expression abruptly changes as she exclaims: "What?! What happened that you didn't tell me about?" She joyfully winks at me, her eyes shining.

"Y-Yuki! Calm down! It's not that huge" I giggle happily. As I already said, I expected this overexaggerated reaction from her, and I love it! "Let's get something warm and I'll tell you about it" I suggest, and Yuki agrees with no complaints.

We get a few chocolate snacks from the convenience store and head straight to the small caffé nearby. The caffé is tiny, in a very traditional japanese style. Its dark brown colours surprisingly don't make this place dark, as the light blesses this place through some huge windows.

Yuki asks for one medium-sized latte, and I do the same, with my poor japanese.

As the hot latte arrives in individual paper cups, we go outside and walk towards a beautiful sunny spot with a wooden bench to sit on. The frost still sharply shines around us as we take a seat, the sun now also covering us. Sipping the hot coffee actually makes me feel pleasantly warm, yet Yuki seems to be burning. Burning for information about last night. She quietly observes me, indicating she wants me to spill everything out.

"I was with him," I say. "The guy from the crossing…"

Yuki forms something between a grin and a smirk on her face, seemingly interested in what I'm saying. "So you exchanged me for your crush~" She hisses, but it eventually turns into a laugh. "I actually don't mind that at all" she laughs with her eyes almost closed, looking genuinely happy to talk with me, even when it's about me. I swear I never want to leave her. I smile softly, as I admire the beautiful happiness of hers.
