Lorenzo's words kept echoing in my mind, "I trusted you, I never hid anything from you." The pain and anger in his voice had cut deep, and I couldn't help but wonder if I had made a mistake by invading his privacy without his consent.
It was the first time he had ever argued with me and refused to talk. He isn't the kind to give me silent treatment but since the previous night, he had refused to exchange words with me. Even though he saw me he refused to talk.
"Mrs. Matteo, are you getting down any minute now?" The Chairman's voice brought me back to reality.
I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself, recalling we were on our way to the president's house.
"Yes," I mumbled now, noticing we had gotten there already and they had been waiting for me to alight from the car.
"Mrs. Matteo, we're going to see the President. I would like you to get yourself straight together."
