Pushing out his wings, Chang Xuefeng leaped over the floor and landed right in front of Hattie. Dropping to his knees, his wings out to give them some semblance of privacy, he studied her face.
Something was wrong, and it had nothing to do with the Judge or the men they had brought into her home. Putting his hand on her shoulders, he gently shook her until she was paying attention to him.
"Where is your lollypop?" he asked, his voice soothing even as his wings flared out in agitation.
Holding up her right hand, Hattie showed him the banana flavored sucker. Good. That was her favorite. "Put it in your mouth," he instructed, and like a little puppet, she obeyed him.
"What were you doing before we came home?" he continued, studying her face and eyes. It was her eyes that gave her away. They seemed to be swirling with anxiety and sadness to the point where even the fucking house was reacting to her emotions.
"Napping," she replied with a nod as she sucked on the lollypop.
