Even though we had been 'split up', we were still very much together as we started walking up the broken-down escalator. Gideon and Daddy were in the lead, while Tank and some random guy went second.
From there, each one of the guys was paired up with a member of the Blackguard until it was just me, Ronan, and some other random dude. Since there were more guards than there were Sins, the rest of them divided themselves up in some way.
My attention, however, wasn't on all the people who surrounded me but on the poor sap they had paired up with Ronan. He was trying to control his temper, and I continued to natter on constantly, but I could see his hand gripping the butt of his rifle as he debated on hitting me or not.
Ronan was about to open his mouth to say something when we had just stepped off the escalator to the second floor. I barely managed to breathe out, "Oh, goodie," before we heard the echoing sound of a safety being released.
