The guard opened the door at the top of the landing with a flourish to show us where we would be living for the next two weeks, and I have to admit, it wasn't what I was thinking at all.
The room seemed to stretch on forever, easily the length of a football field or two, and it was lined with bunk beds on each side. There had to be over a thousand beds, each with a trunk in front of the bottom bed, and that was it.
Half of the beds didn't have any blankets or pillows, while the other half seemed to have more than their share.
"You can pick any bunk you want," announced the guard as he waved us through the doorway. "If you have questions, you can ask one of the other probies."
"I have a question," I announced, my eyes never leaving the nightmare in front of me. It took me a couple of seconds to figure out which one of the numerous questions in my head was the most important one. "Where is the bathroom?"
