Have a good day :)
...
"Hello, Dad" – I said.
I did not know how this conversation must begin, for though I have only been away for a few days, to him it must have seemed like weeks or even years. The disappearance of a son for a father is very difficult to face.
"Jacob! Thank goodness you're fine; my son!" – said my father.
Without thinking twice, he lunged and hugged me tightly. I also reciprocated his hug. The truth is that he must have been extremely worried because he hasn't given me a hug for years. In fact, my father has never been one of those who give hugs.
"I'm sorry I disappeared like that all of a sudden, Dad" - I said.
"It's okay! All is forgiven! The important thing is that you are here now!" – my father said.
When I heard his words my heart ached. Yes, I am here, there is no doubt about that, but I will leave shortly and I will not return... or at least not for a long time.
"Dad... As far as that is concerned... you'd better sit down, I have to tell you something important" – I said.
My father broke away from me and looked at me with a strange look on his face.
"What is the matter with you, Jacob?" - he asked.
"Please sit down, I have something very important to say" – I repeated.
Seeing my serious expression, my father sat up on the bed.
"I'm already seated, tell me what you have to tell me. But first I would like to know why you left and where you were all this time. I looked for you all over the island and found no trace of you and even went to that ruined orphanage but I didn't find you" – my father said.
I see... he even went there for me...
"Everything I'm going to tell you is related to that" – I said.
"Okay, I hear you. Tell me what's wrong with you" – my father said.
"You see, Dad... There's no way to say this without sounding like I'm crazy, so I'll say it bluntly. Did Grandpa ever tell you stories of when he was little and lived his life here, in the orphanage?" – I asked.
My father seemed somewhat pensive, as if he was trying to remember if Grandpa ever told him something like that.
"Actually... He told me something about some kids with super powers or something, but that was when I was very young and I didn't understand the content of those stories then" – my father said.
I suppose he told his son in the hope that he would be special too like him, but since he never showed signs of being peculiar, he decided to stop telling him those stories. I guess he didn't want to involve him in a world to which he didn't belong.
"Dad, all those stories that Grandpa told about children with superpowers are real, they existed, or rather, they exist" – I said.
My father blanked for a moment, as if he couldn't believe what he had just heard from me.
"Jacob... I knew we shouldn't have come to this island, besides, I should never have allowed your grandfather to tell you all those stories... Now everything is more complicated..." – my father said.
His son had gone completely insane. The therapy with that attempt at a psychologist only worsened his condition to the point of believing that there could be children with superpowers.
"Dad, I know it's hard to believe, but they are still living. The only thing is that they live in loops of time, in other words, they live in the past, living the same day over and over again, that's why, even though the orphanage here is destroyed, on the other side of that loop, it's still intact and the children are still alive, living their lives there" – I said.
Telling him everything that had happened would only confuse his mind even more. For the moment it is better that he believes that this is the truth and if he believes it, then I can tell him what has happened.
"Oh my God, this is worse than I thought. That's it, it's over, we're leaving this island right now. From the beginning it was a mistake to come here, I don't know why I allowed myself to be convinced of something like that" – said my father.
Inside he was extremely sad because his son not only had not improved, but now he seemed to be schizophrenic and believed that the children who once inhabited that orphanage were still alive and that they lived in the past. There was no doubt, his son was not well, he had gone crazy and he had to be taken back home as soon as possible so that he could receive the proper treatment.
"Besides, Grandpa also had those super powers, although we are actually called 'Peculiars'" – I explained.
"What do you mean by 'us'?" - my father asked.
"I'm one of them too, dad, I'm a peculiar; like Grandpa" – I said.
My father seemed to turn pale for a second, as if his blood had been completely drained from his body. It seems that my confession is not going as I thought; nothing is being believed.
"Oh my God, Jacob, I don't even know how to react to this. What is that fucking doctor supposed to have done with you? I thought you were getting better, I thought you were really over all that, I don't understand, Jacob: why can't you understand that it's all a lie? There are no children with super powers or any loops or whatever. Those children lived, yes, but they are already dead, Jacob, they don't exist, they died. Please, Jacob, react" – my father said.
Inside I sighed, it seems to me that my plan has not worked, it seems to me that I have to reflect on my methods.
"I must assume that you have not believed anything I have told you despite being true. Am I wrong?" – I said.
"Are you hearing yourself, Jacob? Nothing like that exists! It's all fiction! There is no such thing as children with superpowers or time travel! It's all in your head, Jacob!" - my father exclaimed.
As I expected, all this has been for nothing.
"Calm down, Dad, I'm not lying to you. Everything I say is true" – I said in a last attempt to make him come to his senses.
"It's over, all is over, we're leaving here! We will return home even if it is swimming! But I don't intend to stay here a minute longer! Gather your things! We're going to get off this fucking island right away!" – my father said.
It seems that I have no choice but to show him my peculiarity. Otherwise, he will not believe me.
"I'm not going with you, Dad" – I denied.
"What do you mean? Where are you going if not?" - he asked.
"I'm going with them and I won't be back or rather, I won't be able to come back. I'm sorry" – I said.
My father turned pale again.
Inside, Jacob's father was thinking: Go with them? But they're dead, which meant Jacob was going to... kill himself! ¡ Oh my god; my son is suicidal! This couldn't be worse!
"No! You won't leave here! I won't let you pass!" – my father said.
"Listen, Dad, I..." – I tried to say.
But suddenly, several footsteps were heard.
"Mr. Portman, your son is telling the truth; he never lied to you" – said a female voice.
We were both surprised and when we looked back, we saw that the voice came from Emma, who had not come alone, but was followed by Olive, Bronwyn, Fiona, Claire and the twins.
"Who are you?" – my father said scared.
"We are the peculiar ones that his son Jacob told him about and also... their girlfriends" – Emma said.
"Since when?" – asked the rest of the surprised girls.
"Since we killed that hollow" – Emma said somewhat embarrassed.
"And why didn't you tell us?" - asked Bronwyn.
"There was no chance..." – Emma said.
"Jacob, after talking to your father, you and I have to talk" – Olive said.
I didn't know of her intentions, but right now wasn't the right time to start arguing about something like that.
"What's going on, who are you?" – my father asked surprised.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing. Suddenly, seven beautiful girls had appeared in his room and his brain couldn't fully comprehend this situation.
"We are the peculiar Jacob has told you about" - Emma said.
Then, she formed a small flame in her hand.
"W-What?" – my father said.
"She's right, Dad" – I nodded as I formed a small ball of water in mine.
The others also wanted to show off their powers, but... it was better not to do it if they did not want to kill Jacob's father with a heart attack.
"It can't be... I must be a dream, yes, it's a nightmare from which I will soon wake up" – my father said while clutching his head.
"Mr. Portman, none of this is a dream and we have come here to greet you and tell you that from now on, Jacob will live with us. But don't worry, we will take good care of him just as he will take good care of all of us" – said Olive.
"It can't be... It's a nightmare... it's a nightmare..." – my father said.
He didn't seem to be able to react.
"I think this has been a bad idea from the beginning" – I sighed.
I was kind of sad that my father didn't believe me, that I was going to leave, and that what everyone would think of me is that I'm a deranged person who has fallen into drugs or something.
"Don't blame yourself, Jacob. You've done what you could" – said Bronwyn.
"The normal people never understood our existence very well..." – Fiona nodded.
"Don't worry, brother, we're with you" – Claire said clinging to me.
The twins did the same as they nodded.
"Thank you very much..." – I said with a smile.
However, I couldn't help but have a small tear fall down my cheek as I approached my father.
"Goodbye, Dad. Rest" – I said.
Then, I gave him a small blow on the back of the head, leaving him completely unconscious.
"Jacob... it was the best, he has not been able to assimilate the truth and forcing him would only destroy his mind. You have done well" – said Olive.
