Chapter 88 - Sancta Helena Part 2

**********************

Helicopter

Nik's life had always been tough, but she had persevered. She'd built her own mercenary group with her brother, Yaz. She had heard rumors and whispers about the supernatural world, things she couldn't quite believe. She thought the world was already a disaster, a chaotic mess created by humans. If a supernatural world truly existed, she couldn't even imagine what horrors it might hold.

Nik's gaze lingered on their masked employers. Thinking about the mysterious corpse from their last mission and their enigmatic identities continued to gnaw at her. 'If the pay wasn't worth it, I wouldn't even dare take this mission,' she sighed, her mind flashing back to warnings from other mercenary groups. She shook her head, a weak smirk playing on her lips.

'The supernatural isn't real,' she thought, closing her eyes to calm the unsettling thoughts that threatened to overwhelm her. She needed to focus, to prepare for their upcoming mission.

It wasn't long before a voice crackled through her earpiece, jolting her back to reality.

[We have visuals on the target. I repeat, we have visuals on the target.]

Nik raised a brow, her eyes meeting the fox-masked man who was looking at her like he had heard the report from her earpiece.

"Proceed," she answered, grabbing a pair of binoculars and moving to the side of the pilot. She peered through the lenses, her gaze fixed on their mission target, a ship.

"Let's go, boys," Nik announced, lowering the binoculars. "Ready to shoot on my command." She pressed her earpiece, her voice firm and confident.

While the four helicopters began their descent, maneuvering to a position where they could take precise aim.

"Don't let the choppers go down," Lucian instructed, his voice a low rumble. He slid open the helicopter door, his eyes scanning the scene below. With his keen eyesight, he could already see the Sancta Helena, and the people on board were reacting to the sound of their helicopters.

"Keep them in the air. You'll still be able to hit targets even if you miss," Lucian said. He turned back to Nik, then to Raizo.

"Load it," Lucian ordered, before turning his gaze back fixed on the ship.

Nik frowned, but she followed Lucian's instructions. He was the employer, and though his orders seemed strange, they were meant to ensure the safety of her team. Even if the mission failed, she could always blame it on his unconventional tactics.

Nik pressed her earpiece, relaying Lucian's orders to her team. A moment of silence followed before a response came through the comms.

[Roger that...]

Despite the affirmative, Nik could detect a slight hesitation in their tone. She shook her head, a hint of disappointment coloring her expression. She had thought he was smarter than this, but then again, she didn't know them well enough.

Nik looked at Raizo, who was already opening an RPG crate, loading three RPG launchers with rockets one by one.

"Be careful with that," Yaz said nervously, his voice laced with anxiety. "You don't want us to die before we even start the mission, right?" He'd seen the damage an RPG could inflict, and he wasn't eager to personally experience it.

Lucian felt Nik's gaze on him, but he didn't waver. He had a plan, a carefully crafted strategy in his mind. He couldn't risk getting the helicopters closer. He didn't know how powerful Alexander Corvinus was. But he knew from the movies that Alexander could kill Marcus if he wanted to, especially if Marcus wasn't his son.

Lucian couldn't rely solely on his past memories. He didn't know if Alexander had grown weaker or stronger compared with the Hybrid Marcus he had fought in this world. But one thing was clear: he couldn't risk Kim Yoo-ri and Raizo getting hurt.

That's why Lucian planned to destroy the ship first. If he was lucky, Alexander would be injured, alive but weakened. Or, in the worst-case scenario, Alexander would die, with a completely destroyed body making their mission a complete failure.

"Should we report this to the commander?" one of the Cleaners asked his partner, his gaze glued to the four helicopters descending upon them. He adjusted the scope of his rifle, focusing on the approaching threat.

His partner frowned, his hand instinctively tightening on his own rifle. He peered through the scope, his eyes narrowing.

"Let's observe first," he said, a hint of hesitation in his voice. He didn't want to raise the alarm unnecessarily, especially if the helicopters weren't actually targeting their ship.

The first cleaner remained silent, his attention fixed on the helicopters. He let out a sigh of relief when they began to veer away from the ship.

"They're backing off," he said, his voice tinged with relief.

"Focus! One of them is still coming toward us!" his partner shouted, his finger tightening on the trigger. He and his partner aimed their rifles, their bodies tense with anticipation.

They watched as the helicopter continued its ascent, soaring high above them. They lowered their rifles, exchanging a confused look. They knew they couldn't hit the helicopter from that distance, but they were relieved that it meant they were safe from a direct attack as well.

"Let's report it," the first cleaner said, his voice tight with apprehension. Even though they couldn't harm the helicopter with bullets, they knew the danger wasn't over. The helicopter could easily drop something deadly on them.

The other cleaner nodded, pressing his earpiece against his ear. His gaze remained locked on the helicopter, his eyes narrowed with suspicion.

"What is that?" he exclaimed, his voice laced with confusion. He saw something fly out from inside the helicopter.

•-----•-----•-----•-----•

"It's ready," Raizo reported, his voice calm despite the impending chaos.

Lucian, his gaze fixed on the ship below, nodded in acknowledgment.

"Be ready," he instructed, his tone clipped and urgent.

Kim Yoo-ri and Raizo exchanged a look, their faces under the mask filled with determination to complete their goal.

Nik and Yaz, on the other hand, were filled with a mix of confusion and apprehension, their experience telling them that their current height position offered little room for maneuvering.

Then, with a sudden, almost unnatural movement, the RPG launchers sprang to life, detaching themselves from the crate and spinning floating through the air.

"What the f-!" Yaz exclaimed, his voice a mix of shock and disbelief. He dropped his gun, grabbing his head in disbelief.

Nik, recognizing the imminent danger, reacted instinctively. She grabbed her brother's arm, pulling him back into his seat.

"Shut up!" she snapped, her eyes narrowing observing the back of the figure with the fox mask. She had a strong suspicion he was the one responsible for this, their enigmatic leader.

The RPGs, controlled by an unseen force, rotated in mid-air, aiming at the ship.

"It's all yours," Lucian whispered, his gaze fixed on Cortana, who stood before him, a smirk playing on her lips. She was controlling the RPGs sharing his psychic abilities, her mind calculating trajectories, wind resistance, and the probability of a hit.

One RPG locked onto a small section of glass on the deck; another found its mark, a crucial point of entry.

The first rocket streaked through the air, slamming into the deck. The two cleaners on the deck, caught off guard, scrambled for cover.

BOOOM!

The explosion shattered the glass, sending shards flying, and ripped a gaping hole in the deck. Smoke billowed, obscuring the scene. But Cortana had already anticipated this.

The second rocket, guided by her unseen power, pierced through the smoke, aiming for Alexander Corvinus's office.

BOOM!

Another explosion rocked the ship, this time from within. Fire erupted, spreading quickly, its flames licking at the air.

"Let's go," Lucian said, his voice devoid of emotion. He turned to Kim Yoo-ri and Raizo, who nodded in silent understanding.

"Wait, what are you doing?" Nik exclaimed, her eyes widening. "You haven't even given us orders! What are we supposed to do?" She looked in shock as they were planning to jump from the helicopter without parachutes, a suicide more than a plan that she had never anticipated.

"Your mission objective, this time, is simple," Lucian said, his gaze fixed on Nik.

"Don't let anyone escape. Do you understand?" He said with an unreadable tone.

Nik took a deep breath, her mind racing. She knew that this was not a standard mission. This was something different, something dangerous. She nodded slowly knowing they couldn't back out, not now that they knew something.

"Good," Lucian said, a hint of amusement coloring his tone. With a fluid motion, he leaped from the helicopter, while both Raizo and Kim Yoo-ri followed in quick succession.

"No matter what happens, We only have one goal today, gentlemen," Nik barked into her earpiece, her voice resolute.

"Don't let anyone escape." Nik rose from her seat, her eyes fixed on the scene below. She watched Lucian and the others descend, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew, deep down, that this was different from any mission they had experienced before, this was the beginning and an opening to a new world that they hadn't seen.

•-----•-----•-----•-----•

Lucian gazed down calmly as he plunged towards the deck, the wind whipping around him. He used his psychic abilities to slow his descent, as well as the fall of his team, cushioning their landing on the deck.

"Kill them all," Lucian commanded, his voice was cold showing no emotions, his gaze fixed on Kim Yoo-ri and Raizo.

Raizo nodded, a silent acknowledgment, before disappearing into the shadows, his eyes filled with determination to fulfill his mission as this was connected to the future of their clan.

Kim Yoo-ri's eyes glowed orange amber light, her pupils becoming slits. A predatory grin curled her lips as she charged towards the two Cleaners scrambling to retrieve their fallen rifles after the blast.

One of the Cleaners, crouched on the deck, froze as he saw a blood spreading on the deck before him. Then the sound of choking reached his ears.

He slowly raised his head and saw his partner, his throat slashed open, gurgling on his own blood, before collapsing onto his knees, his life flashing away from his face as he fell down on the deck.

The Cleaner, sensing movement beside him, turned his head to the side.

There with the flickering light of the fire, stood the masked woman, her fingers reaching towards his neck. With a swift, deadly precision, she sliced through his throat.

He instinctively reached for his wound, but it was too late. He followed his comrade, slumping to the deck, life draining from his eyes.

Kim Yoo-ri flicked her finger, the blood staining it a stark testament to her transformation, the years spent with Lucian and Raizo honing her skills, her strength, and her control.

She turned back to Lucian, their gazes meeting. A nod passed between them, a silent confirmation of their shared purpose.

Then, she rushed toward the door, bursting through it. She encountered a Cleaner who emerged from the interior, his weapon raised. With lightning-fast reflexes, she disarmed him breaking his arm and her claws flashing, before slicing his throat, then disappearing into the ship's interior.

Lucian remained motionless, his gaze fixed on the inferno consuming the ship. Smoke billowed, obscuring the scene, the air thick with the smell of burning wood and acrid smoke.

Then, from the heart of the flames, a figure emerged, leaping from the gaping hole in the deck. He landed on the deck with a thud, holding two medieval swords flashing in the dim light, his clothes smoldering, the burn marks on his face a testament to the fire he had walked through.

"Nice to finally meet you," Lucian said, his voice calm and unwavering. He studied the old man before him, the legendary Alexander Corvinus, the first immortal man.

"The first immortal man."
