Zara's hands trembled as she stroked Leo's hair. Her mind raced, and her heart pounded with the weight of everything. She could hear the medics working on Winter, their hushed voices blending with the sounds of quiet sobs and murmurs behind them. She wanted to be strong, but exhaustion gnawed at her, and every inch of her body screamed for a break.
"Mommy…" Leo's voice, small and fragile, pulled her back to the present.
She leaned down, brushing her cheek against his. "Yes baby? You're awake?"
"Uncle? Where is he?" he whispered, his voice shaky. "Uncle will be okay?"
