Immediately the Chief's lip curled in disdain, but his eyes betrayed his fear. "You're insane," he spat.
"Why would you bring the police here, knowing they're on our side? Do you really think you can control this?"
Kai's shoulders rose and fell in a shrug.
"Control isn't necessary," he replied.
"I just need enough chaos to tip the scales. When the bodies hit the ground, and the footage leaks, it won't matter who's on whose side. The public loves a good story, and I'm giving them the ultimate drama—corruption, betrayal, and justice."
The Mayor's face contorted with rage. "You're gambling with your life," he snarled. "Do you really think you'll walk out of here alive after this?"
Kai's cheek twitched again, and a faint smirk played on his lips.
"Alive or dead, I win," he said simply. "But I'm leaning toward alive."
