The sound echoed across the office walls—slow, measured, and terribly out of place.
At that moment Isabella's heart skipped.
She froze, her eyes wide, the papers in her hand slipping silently to the floor. Her head tilted slightly, as if her ears had deceived her. There was no way someone was clapping. Not here. Not now.
She had been in this office the entire day. The guards were stationed at every hallway. The doors were locked. Not a single person had walked in. Not one.
So how? Another clap followed. Then another.
Her breath caught in her throat.
Slowly, hesitantly, she turned her head.

Seated calmly in the visitor's chair, legs crossed like he owned the place, Kai kept clapping softly—his eyes locked on hers, his face unreadable.
She stumbled a step back, hitting the corner of her desk.
At that moment her voice came out dry, shaky. "Who—who are you? What… what are you doing here?!"
