The next day, Satoshi woke up early and checked the level rankings while eating breakfast.
Pokémon Level Rankings:
1st Place: LV33, Charmeleon – Owner: Satoshi
2nd Place: LV33, Frogadier – Owner: Satoshi
3rd Place: LV32, Grovyle – Owner: Satoshi
4th Place: LV32, Riolu – Owner: Satoshi
5th Place: LV25, Machop – Owner: [Name Hidden]
20th Place: LV16, Nidorino – Owner: [Name Hidden]
21st Place: LV15, Oddish – Owner: leah
The top four spots all belonged to him, with his in-game name Chenxi being fully exposed. Four Pokémon above Level 30—all under his name—made him an obvious standout.
Most of the rankings after his were hidden names, which were also his Pokémon. He chose to conceal them to avoid drawing unnecessary attention.
It wasn't until the top 20 that another player's name appeared. In other words, he single-handedly dominated the rankings, while the next strongest player didn't even make it into the top 20.
On the forums, players had already begun speculating. Some thought the hidden names belonged to developers or internal testers. Others boldly suggested that all these Pokémon belonged to the same person.
Next, Satoshi checked the Potential Rankings.
Pokémon Potential List:
1st Place: Charmeleon – Champion Potential – Owner: Satoshi
2nd Place: Frogadier – Champion Potential – Owner: Satoshi
3rd Place: Grovyle – Champion Potential – Owner: Satoshi
4th Place: Riolu – Elite Potential – Owner: Satoshi
5th Place: Plusle – Gym Leader Potential – Owner: [Name Hidden]
6th Place: Pidgey – Gym Leader Potential – Owner: [Name Hidden]
7th Place: Staryu – Elite Potential – Owner: leah
Again, his main Pokémon dominated the top spots. The rest weren't even worth mentioning.
Then he looked at the Trainer Rankings.
Trainer Ranking List:
1st Place: Satoshi (Senior Trainer)
2nd Place: None
There wasn't even a second-place Trainer yet.
"Well, that makes sense," he thought.
In his past life, the first Intermediate Trainer had only appeared a week after the game launched. Now, it was only the third day.
"But these guys are catching up faster than before. They hit Level 15 by the second day. I bet we'll see the first Intermediate Trainer tomorrow or the day after. That's a few days ahead of my previous life's timeline."
Finally, he checked the Badge Rankings.
Badge List:
1st Place: 1 Badge (Boulder Badge) – Owner: Satoshi
2nd Place: 1 Badge (Boulder Badge) – Owner: Reah
3rd Place: 1 Badge (Boulder Badge) – Owner: brook
4th Place: None
Game Tip: Badges with the same number are ranked by acquisition time.
Satoshi raised an eyebrow.
"Interesting… Someone actually got a badge the day after me."
In his past life, no one had gotten a Badge this early.
"Am I pushing them too hard?"
He recognized the two names.
They had been the first and second-ranked Trainers to earn a Badge in his previous life, yet now, they were far behind him.
"They must have realized they can't beat me in level or rankings, so they're trying to outpace me in the Badge list instead."
He smiled at the thought.
"Nice try. You might have beaten Brock yesterday, but you probably haven't even entered Mt. Moon yet. Meanwhile, I'm getting my second Badge today."
"I love seeing people trying their hardest to catch up to me, only to realize they never will."
Satoshi finished his breakfast, logged into the game, and prepared for the day.
"Let's go, Satoshi! Time to head to the Cerulean City Gym!"
After breakfast, Misty took Satoshi to the Gym.
Located in the suburbs, the Gym wasn't far, but Cerulean City was large, and newcomers often struggled to find it.
Of course, Satoshi already knew exactly where it was. But since Misty was offering to guide him, he wasn't about to refuse.
After a 20-minute walk, they arrived.
Satoshi watched as Misty casually removed the "Gym Leader Unavailable" sign and unlocked the door with her key.
He couldn't help but chuckle.
"Pfft..."
"Huh? Satoshi, what's so funny?"
"Oh, nothing. Just thought of something amusing."
Satoshi smirked.
"Misty, you're way too smooth at this. And you still want to pretend you're not the Gym Leader?"
Misty didn't seem suspicious and led him straight to the battle arena.
As a Water-type expert, Misty had ensured that her Gym catered to aquatic Pokémon. However, since not all Trainers had Water-types, the battlefield was a hybrid of land and water.
Misty silently walked to the opposite side, then took out her Poké Ball and pointed it at Satoshi.
"You don't look surprised. Did you already figure it out?"
Seeing Satoshi's calm expression and knowing smile, she frowned slightly.
"I suspected it before," Satoshi admitted. "And when I saw you unlock the Gym, I was sure."
"Sorry, sorry. I wanted to act surprised for you, but honestly, I just found it funny."
Though he tried to hold it in, a small chuckle escaped.
Misty sighed, feeling like she had just made a fool of herself.
She had hoped to surprise Satoshi—only for him to already know.
"...Very well. So you think it's funny to laugh at me?"
Her expression darkened slightly as she clenched her Poké Ball.
"Let's see if you can still laugh after our battle."
She had received a notice last night that the Gym difficulty should be increased. She had debated whether to go easy on Satoshi…
But now?
She planned to make him sweat.
"The battle rules are simple—three versus three. The first to lose all their Pokémon loses the match. Are you ready?"
Misty's voice was steady, but there was a competitive edge to it.
"No problem," Satoshi nodded. "Let's start."
"As the Gym Leader, I'll send out my Pokémon first!"
"Go! Starmie!"
Misty threw her Poké Ball, and with a flash of light, Starmie emerged in the water.
Pokédex Entry:
Name: Starmie
Type: Water/Psychic
Ability: Natural Cure
Level: 33
Satoshi checked the stats and felt slightly relieved.
"After facing Brock's over-leveled team, I thought I'd be up against Pokémon several levels higher again. But this is manageable."
Higher-level battles gave more experience, but constantly fighting uphill was exhausting.
"Did I level up too fast? Whatever. Against a Rival like this, I have no excuse to lose."
"Alright, you're up first."
Satoshi grabbed his Poké Ball and stepped forward.
A flash of light revealed Grovyle, who narrowed his eyes at Starmie, already anticipating the fight.
"Then… let's begin!"
"Starmie! Use Ice Beam!"
