Chapter 84 - Quincy Hollow Experiment

"However, this ability should also have limitations."

When Arima said these words, he thought about what would happen after his friend Yhwach, in the original story, activated the Holy Spirit.

Logically speaking, all Quincy are descendants of Yhwach.

The blood of Yhwach runs in their veins. After Yhwach activates the Holy Spirit, no Quincy should be able to resist this power. All their abilities, including their souls, would be taken by Yhwach.

But in the original work, there were indeed several Quincies who successfully resisted the Holy Spirit.

Pure-blooded Quincies like the Ishida family are the obvious examples.

Even among the Star Cross Knights, several members managed to resist the Holy Spirit.

It's important to note that the members of the Star Cross Knights were imprinted with Yhwach's soul blood before they were engraved with their holy words. They could be considered the first-generation descendants of Yhwach.

So, when Yhwach initiated the sanctification, some still didn't die.

Why is this?

Arima speculated that it might be connected to the power hidden within their blood.

Pure-blood Quincies are powerful enough to resist the Holy Spirit to a certain degree.

Quincies who haven't received Yhwach's soul blood directly are affected by it due to their ancestral bloodline. But this influence is weak enough that their souls are not taken by Yhwach.

Of course, their strength still weakens.

Pure-blood Quincies who do carry Yhwach's soul blood can resist it to a degree, depending on their strength. They may lose some of their abilities, but their souls are not taken.

On the other hand, mixed-blood Quincies, with their impure blood, are weaker than pure-bloods. Whether they carry Yhwach's mixed blood or not, their souls will be taken when separated.

This is why Ishida Uryū is so special.

His soul carries a unique power, and even though this power had not yet awakened, it protected him from the Holy Spirit.

When Yhwach used his soul blood to help Ishida inscribe his holy words and activate that power, it ultimately became the force that overwhelmed Yhwach.

Within the boundaries of the research space, two thousand days had passed, but only one day passed in the real world.

Arima had plenty of time to discuss with Aizen.

They weren't sure how many experiments they had conducted here, nor how many ideas they had tested on the Quincy.

They even tried to Hollow the Quincy.

Hollow experiments had existed for a long time in Soul Society.

After all, Hollow is the result of a deviation in the soul's evolutionary process. While it is a deviation, it has its merits. The power of a Hollow is well-known. But is there a way for a Shinigami to remove its own Shinigami power while also gaining Hollow power?

The problem with Hollows is that they have only instincts and no reason, which leads them to endless hunger and desire to devour.

If a Shinigami's power could be used to control Hollow's power, and if Shinigami's reason could suppress the Hollow's madness, then a Shinigami could become extremely powerful.

Unfortunately, this experiment was banned shortly after it began.

It simply wasn't possible.

When Hollow power enters a Shinigami's body, it acts like a virus, quickly eroding the Shinigami's body. The Shinigami loses his mind in the process, and his original Shinigami power is affected, leading him to slowly transform into a Hollow.

Trying to use a Shinigami's power to suppress Hollow power was even more futile.

In Soul Society, such taboo experiments were strictly forbidden.

But Arima and Aizen tried it on the Quincy.

This attempt led to new discoveries.

When Hollow power enters a Shinigami's body, it transforms the Shinigami into a Hollow.

However, when Hollow power enters a Quincy's body, it weakens their abilities.

When a pure-blood Quincy was exposed to Hollow power, it was as though they were poisoned. Their Quincy power was gradually drained by the Hollow's influence, and their body started to collapse.

These two forces—Hollow and Quincy—were like opposites, fundamentally incompatible.

The same transformation seen in Shinigami Hollowification didn't happen to the Quincy.

Instead of transforming into a Hollow, the Quincy's life began to slowly fade away.

Though there was a Hollow hole within their body, it acted as a talisman.

"Why exactly is this?"

Even though Hollow experiments had been forbidden by Soul Society for many years, Arima was still surprised by the results of the Quincy Hollow experiment.

Aizen was keen to understand why this happened.

But this was not something that could be figured out quickly.

Meanwhile, another research project between Arima and Kirio Hikifune was advancing rapidly.

The Temporal Soul Theory.

Although it was an incredibly implausible idea, Hikifune Kirio had confirmed its potential after years of verification and improvement.

The essence of the Hollow power is simply the introduction of Hollow's energy into Shinigami's power. Shinigami then possesses both powers simultaneously, making them more powerful.

This theory, however, was proven to be incorrect.

So what about enhancing the Shinigami's own Shinigami power?

Is it possible?

Could the power of the same source nourish a Shinigami's soul, thus strengthening their Reiatsu?

"Successful!"

At the Seireitei Research Institute, Hikifune Kirio watched Arima inject a group of spiritual energy into the experimental soul. As the energy was absorbed, the soul in front of them quickly grew stronger.

It was similar to the seeds of the large tree Hikifune Kirio had cultivated in the past.

Although the soul wasn't a Shinigami in the true sense, the growth was visible to the naked eye. This was the most significant result from all previous experiments.

Hikifune Kirio excitedly recorded all the information, as though she had found a treasure.

To complete the temporal soul, the soul itself must first be purified.

Only then can the rejection be minimized.

Additionally, the spiritual energy infused into the soul must be pure and free from any trace of foreign influence.

It must contain no personal will or spiritual force; otherwise, the experiment will fail.

Only someone with deep spiritual expertise, like Arima, could perform such an experiment.

"Captain, it was absolutely the right choice to ask for your help."

After years of research, they finally made significant progress. Hikifune Kirio was so overjoyed that she picked up Arima in her excitement.

Arima, however, didn't expect Hikifune Kirio to suddenly react like this.

Had she done it intentionally or by accident?
