On Thursday, Jiang An stayed on duty at the hospital.
The girl in a white coat made her rounds in the general ward. One of her patients had been in poor condition since morning, and several attending physicians had already consulted on the case during the day, tentatively scheduling surgery for the following afternoon.
The location of the tumor in the elderly patient's brain was particularly tricky, keeping a team of doctors extremely busy. Jiang An watched in the ward as the old lady, a mere shadow of her former self, was wracked with pain. Already frail with age, she now had to endure this illness, her face ashen as she lay in bed.
Jiang An heard a couple of young nurses discussing the old woman's condition in the rest area. It made her think of the heated argument she had overheard in the office earlier, where Dr. Li and the others were red in the face, disputing over the surgery.
