Seraphina's heart thrashed against her ribs, a wild rhythm of nerves and desire. It was almost noon, and the air was cool against her skin, but heat licked beneath it, born of his gaze, of the slow way Rhydian looked at her like she was prey cornered with nowhere to run.
His eyes dipped to where her robe had fallen open, revealing the soft rise of her breasts. Then lower. His gaze scorched her skin.
"Look at you," he muttered, voice low, gravelly. "Trembling already—and I've barely touched you."
She wanted to snap back. Wanted to tell him to shut up. But when his hands found her waist, rough and sure, slipping beneath the silk and dragging it down like he was unwrapping a gift, the words died in her throat.
