Sin looked around to see everyone's reactions. It was amusing to him, since it was so absurd. He easily laughed at stuff, so he couldn't help but chuckle slightly at this as well.
But what surprised him was how fast everyone's faces went back to normal.
'Jeez... I have no clue who this Magnus guy is, but it seems everyone respects the shit out of him. Or maybe the correct word is fear.' He glanced over at the seemingly pride-filled young man.
'He's probably some sort of prince. Maybe of Solstar... it would definitely make sense. But then again, Solstar isn't that big of a city, is it? I heard Captainia, this kingdom itself, isn't even that prosperous. If he happens to be the prince of Solstar or something, he sure does have quite the ego on him.'
Of course, all of this was just speculation. Sin knew he wouldn't actually find out unless he asked, but he wasn't so intrigued.
He was more focused on the exam before him, which was shaping up quickly.
According to Bao Huxin, his team, 'My Team Is The Most Superior, So If You Are In Another Team, You Are An Inferior Peasant Who Doesn't Even Deserve To Kiss My Feet... You Loathsome Peasant Weakling Scum!', was going to go last, just like in the name-choosing process.
He waited patiently as the first group, Team 100%, made their way to the opposite side of the arena and lined up in front of the five Spirit testing 'machines.'
These machines were something that Sin had never seen before. They weren't some crystal that could absorb Spirit energy or even a mechanical contraption that would accurately assess one's Spirit prowess.
They were just five big golems made out of stone. Blue lines went throughout their limbs and body, and their eyes also gleamed with an azure hue.
Apart from that, they were about 7 feet tall with round hands and feet. Their body looked to be molded by stone instead of being made out of a bunch of separate stones.
They stood ten feet apart from each other, same as the five examinees getting ready to deploy their Spirits.
Bao Huxin raised his voice, "These are Spirit Golems. Simple names, simple definitions! They are vessels that appear naturally in the wilderness and have a knack for accurately testing Spirit. It's almost like they were created for that very purpose. Of course, they have other commodities and things they can do... but who cares about that? They are useful here, so they are used here. But the way they work isn't simple. Each one of them has a separate personality--which it has absorbed from various other Spirits that it has confused. But don't take that to mean it has just copied someone else's personality. No... each one of these has their own personality, taking all other personalities that it comes into contact with and mixing them together to form its own... similar to how you all do it as well."
Bao laughed, "Well, go on then... attack it with your best move!"
Hearing all of this, Team 100% readied their stances. They faced the Spirit Golems with focused looks on their faces.
One of them raised their hand: "Air blast!" A large mouth the size of an apple appeared on their palm. It was transparent in color and exhaled a gust of wind that brushed against the Spirit Golem before dissipating into nothing.
The golem shook its head, "3/10. Fail." It simply said, letting out an exasperated sigh as if it had done this a million times.
The person who performed that move felt their shoulders drop as they exclaimed with dissatisfaction: "Aw... tsk."
The others shot their moves. One of them was a bird that dropped pellets of fire onto the golem.
"4/10. That's really it? You fail."
Another was a butterfly that dropped sleeping pollen over the golem.
"3/10. Not good enough, sorry. It was a good attempt, though. Maybe next time you will do better."
The one beside that one, the examinee unleashed a dark hound that darted over and attempted to ravage the Spirit Golem's arm.
"6/10. Not bad... barely passed."
Just like this, the team finished their examinations and returned to the waiting group on the other side of the arena.
For the Spirit testing, Team 100%'s overall grade was 3.8/10, the median of all five gradings.
Quite a pitiful score, which explained why they looked so depressed back in the crowd.
The other teams went up, getting their scores with a grim expression most of the time.
Bao Huxin announced the overall scores of the teams as they returned:
"Team Fortune overall Spirit grading: 4.2!"
"Searchers Of Wonderland overall Spirit grading: 5!"
"Divinity overall Spirit grading: 6.4!"
"Monstrous overall Spirit grading: 4.1!"
"BTD: Blood Thirsty Demons overall Spirit grading: 3.6!"
"Maximum Velocity overall Spirit grading: 3.9!"
"Victory overall Spirit grading: 6.9!"
"Passing Is The Only Option overall Spirit grading: 5.1!"
And finally came Sin's turn. As he walked up to his Spirit Golem, he could tell the eyes of the entire crowd were on him and his team.
The feeling, he could imagine, would bring nervousness to many. It should have made him nervous especially since he barely just got a Spirit.
However, he was more excited than anything. It wasn't because he had much trust in his Spirit to perform well--quite the opposite--he knew his Spirit was going to be his weak point in this exam.
He was excited simply because he was in a place that looked like an impossibility for him just hours ago.
His eyes glanced up to Ince and the other people leaning over the railings above him.
"Begin!" Bao exclaimed, causing Sin's attention to go back to the golem.
At first, he closed his eyes, 'Okay... now how the fuck do I use Healing Bug, now that I've made it a passive skill...'
Magnus' fangirl was the first to go. After interlocking her fingers, she summoned a mole that dug through the ground and attempted to drill through the Spirit Golem.
"5.9/10. Ain't too bad, but you failed."
The girl exhaled, "Aw..." She exclaimed.
The obese lady abruptly ran at the golem out of nowhere, capturing the attention of the crowd.
As soon as she got close enough, she bear-hugged the Spirit Golem--attempting to crush it. The length of her hair doubled as her fat morphed into muscle for only a moment.
"Enough! 7.8/10, you pass!" The golem exclaimed, causing the lady to pant heavily as she made her way back to the starting line.
Some examinees laughed, "What an absurd power."
"Is that a morphing Spirit?"
"Interesting."
"She's quite strong."
Sin grimaced as he saw that, 'To think... I just barely avoided that.'
He was stalling right now since nothing had come to his mind when thinking about how to go about using his Spirit.
Dreli went next, clapping his hands together powerfully as a large green praying mantis the size of a pig summoned in front of him.
With sharp, serrated blades of exoskeleton, it lunged at the Spirit Golem and unleashed a flurry of slashes.
"8.2/10! Awesome, you passed with flying colors!" The golem responded.
Dreli smirked as he heard the small commotion of whispers in the large examinee crowd.
"8.2!? That's the highest score yet..."
"Wow... that's impressive."
"It's Dreli, after all. It should be expected."
Sin exhaled, staring at the Spirit Golem in front of him, 'This is the part of the exam I will do the worst at.'
"Well..." Magnus suddenly said, looking over at Sin, "Go on. You're the last one."
Sin glanced at him, then glanced at the golem in front of him, 'I guess stalling much more won't help. This is really the only way I can use a non-aggressive healing spell like this.' He said, pinching the skin on his arm.
Magnus looked down at what Sin was doing with a brow raised. He seemed a bit curious.
Dreli mocked without hesitation: "What the hell is this guy doing? Go on... try to test yourself. It won't come up as shit! I have no clue how a piece of shit like you even got in this exam without any sign of a Spirit!"
After pinching his skin hard enough, the top layer broke and a drop of blood seeped out.
Immediately, Healing Bug went to work and began fixing up the small injury.
"2/10." The Spirit Golem suddenly said: "Very bad. You have failed."
