Nearly thirty minutes later, when Lucy calls, interrupting our unexpected catch-up, I talk to her briefly before leaving Kael in the nursery.
With Kael serving as beta and Lucy being the pack healer, they have to be available to packmates at all times. I'm guessing Lucy's having to deal with issues she hasn't had to deal with before, in my father and Kael' absence.
Since I stopped hearing Lucian and Zia out in the garden some time ago, it doesn't come as a surprise to step outside and find it mostly empty.
But not completely empty, because leaning against a tree at the bottom of the garden is Lucian's father, Connall.
"They went to town together," he says with a suggestive smile curving his lips.
"Oh, okay. Thanks, I'd better—" In the middle of turning around, Connall's voice stops me.
"Come join me. I think it's about time I got to know the woman my son mated."
