Chapter 27 - Fight, no Flight

Eclipse made a quick decision instantly, with a tug at his Aether he activated the enchantment woven unto his coat. The world blurred and he turned invisible, he ducked down but the old wooden floor board betrayed him with a crack. Raising his head upward, he saw the Stain, hands outstretched in his previous position clawing at empty air. He nimbly crawled away from his position careful not to make a sound, as he crawled away the voice of the Stain rang out— hollowed, warped, Wrong.

"Return it Marked, return it Marked...."

The stain had split it's own throat to allow its word be heard, and how it was scratching at his nose, trying to open it and sniff out the Marked in possession of it's mother book. Eclipse turned to look at the repulsive thing and his eyes locked on the form of the wooden handle of the rake, it splintered from the neck of the rake making a make-shift spear, then a crazy idea found it's way to his mind. He dismissed the idea, but he was given no choice.

The only sound was the constant Weiling of the Stain, and the scratching sound it made.

'It looks like you have no where to go to, then don't blame me for being merciless'. With a toughen expression on his face he move near the stain and on his way picked up the spear like wooden handle.

With a thought he activated his Eyes of truth and gazed at the place it's heart was supposed to be, the Stain had a blacken soul shard and two hearts.

'A Nether-borne Evil, I have killed one of you before'.

He positioned himself at the back of the Stain took a deep breath and pulled on the Aether within him, his body temperature increased as his liquid fire like Aether surged in his body. For a moment the Stain stopped its activity but it was too late.

With a battle cry Eclipse lunged at the exposed back of the beast his invisibility coming undone, the 'spear' punctured through the heart of Stain appearing on the other side of it's body with a sickening crunch. The Stain was having non of it, it tried to turn around but Eclipse was quick to lean back and kick the Stain on its spine sending it skidding across the floor.

The Stain tried to stand up but Eclipse was upon it, he stabbed the spear into the body of the Stain, pinning it to the ground like a specimen, even though the Stain tried to stand up by using its hand to push at the floor, raising through the make-shift spear still lodged in it's body but Eclipse was just getting started.

He shifted his stance—coiling like a spring—then lashed out, smashing his foot into the creature's skull, stomp.

"You indirectly caused you mother to abandon you". Stomp.

"I indirectly caused the death of my mother". Stomp.

"You don't see me whining". Stomp.

"Do you know what I have been through". Stomp

"Yet you attack me for simply taking a book". Stomp.

"If you loved her so much, why then did you betray her". Stomp.

"I look at kids with they Mothers, I envy them and here you are throwing away your mother". Stomp.

"I lied to myself saying I don't need a mom, but I was wrong, dead wrong, I need a mom and here you are throwing your own away". Stomp.

"She gave you everything but you seeked to defile her". Stomp.

"Now here you are trying to make up for lost time by killing me". Stomp.

"But who's dying now, huh". Stomp.

"Who's on the floor now, Huh.

"Oh I'm sorry, you can't talk cause you're dead".

As he Stomped at the head of the Stain he let out his dormant self out, his rebellious, vengeful self.

Along the way the Diary had announced the kill but he was still busy stomping to care, he stopped to look at the dead body of the Stain whose head has turned into a mixture of brain matter and black blood.

The blood had splashed everywhere Staining him with splatters of blood on his face. As he stood there his breath laboured, he took in the sight of the now open alter, the blood of the Stain had flowed into the alter and at some point the alter shifted revealing a staircase leading below, the blood of the Stain flowing from step to step. The blood slithered down the steps like it knew the way.

Eclipse stared down into the dark void. For a moment, he was still. Then, with a look of utter disdain, he turned his head and spat. His spittle fell and mixed with the blood on the steps.

"Like hell I'm going down there," he snarled, voice hoarse with fury. "Keep your knowledge to yourself am out of here".

Shaking, he turned from the altar and made his way toward the book. It lay soaked in blood, the cover slick and heavy, pages sticking together. The blood meant more answers—but Eclipse had had enough of this cursed place, the was going to read it someplace else. He snatched the book up, cradling it like something fragile, and limped toward the exit.

But then he froze.

A sound—a distant, rising chorus of wailing—hit his ears like a funeral song.

Outside the broken threshold of the temple, through the crumbled archway, a terrible sight met his eyes.

A horde.

Dozens—no, hundreds—of Stains.

They staggered and limped, faces warped, melting, fused with sorrow and rage. The wailing poured from them in one haunting, unified cry. Their eyes, where they had them, burned with hatred. They were coming.

Slowly, surely, unrelenting.

Eclipse's heart skipped a beat.

"No… no no no…"

They had all the surroundings blocked and the only way to escape was back in the temple through the staircase.

There was no time to think. No time to fight. He pivoted and sprinted back toward the altar. His boots slapped against the blood-slick floor, barely keeping traction. Without second thought, without shame at eating his words so early he ran into the staircase.

He had barely walked a few steps when he lost footing, he had stepped directly on the spittle he had thrown over, he slipped with nothing for him to hold on to he started trembling down the steps. When he finally reached the last ground of the staircase his vision was bloody, he had hit his eyebrow on the staircase and it had injured his eyebrow severely to the extent his bone was showing, for a moment he layed there disoriented. When he regained his focuse his eyes of truth scanned the under ground room and what he saw made his blood run cold.
