"Speaking of patents, Joe," I began, "I want to start introducing alien tech that makes life better for people. Is there any way to hide the tech in devices or make it so that there is absolutely no chance of even the best scientists figuring out how it works."
"Well, it depends on which technologies we're talking about," Joe answered, "Adaptive lasers that change wavelength and energy levels could probably be reproduced given a few samples to deconstruct. Dark energy generators would probably be a mystery since they'd need to invent a new kind of to work it out. They would likely, however, realize that no one else on earth figured it out either. In fact, that's probably the case for anything that can't be reverse engineered."
