Chapter 38 - Rampage

The official rampage of Godzilla on the remaining cities had begun.

But before it truly started, there was something Godzilla needed to do first.

Had the humans begun evacuating?

Relieved from its previous state of poor heat dissipation, Godzilla observed the human radar and saw the movement—

Tens of thousands of dots. Tens of thousands of combat personnel were evacuating Osaka via a fleet of heavy transport aircraft and a mobile base vehicle, similar to the one encountered in Nagoya.

They lifted off from the airport, flying toward East Asia, carrying soldiers, workers, and the remnants of a massive retreat. Below them, the mobile base vehicle, moving at a speed comparable to the aircraft above, headed northward, seemingly preparing to enter the ocean.

The fleets of transport aircraft and the mobile base vehicle aimed to escape before Godzilla arrived.

However, Godzilla had no intention of allowing them to retreat so easily.

A few hundred or a few thousand people were one thing. But now, there were tens of thousands. They couldn't be allowed to escape.

Standing amidst the burning ruins of Nagoya, Godzilla gathered power in its feet. Then, in an instant, it released it all.

Billions—no, trillions—of tons of force shattered the ground beneath it as Godzilla launched forward. Just as it had done minutes ago, it sprinted at an astonishing speed.

150 meters per second.

200 meters per second.

250 meters.

300 meters!

Godzilla's speed surged, approaching the sound barrier—then shattering it.

Each step was an explosion. The landscape was torn apart in its wake. Forests, terrain, entire swaths of land were obliterated, as if an entire squadron of bombers had rained destruction upon the earth.

Earthquakes rippled outward, shockwaves leveling a small hill in its path. The terrain crumbled before it, only the tallest mountains managing to remain unscathed. Even then, they merely served as stepping stones.

And then, Godzilla leaped.

Running at supersonic speed, both feet struck a ridge simultaneously. Using its immense strength, it launched itself skyward, soaring hundreds of meters above the mountain peaks.

Its head touched the clouds.

Then, as if reveling in the sensation of the cold mist against its scales, Godzilla lowered its head—and fired its breath downward.

A blinding torrent of energy erupted, the sheer force of the blast propelling it further through the air. It wasn't true flight, but it was enough to extend its leap. After soaring several kilometers, Godzilla landed.

BOOM!

The earth shuddered beneath its mass. Without losing momentum, Godzilla continued its charge, intent on catching the retreating human forces before they could flee the Far East.

"H-How is this possible?!"

Inside the retreating mobile base vehicle, panic erupted.

"Godzilla suddenly accelerated from the outskirts of Nagoya—and it's heading straight for us!"

The previous calm atmosphere shattered, observers left speechless at the unexpected maneuver.

On the command center's massive screen, the monstrous titan charged forward with terrifying speed, closing the distance at an alarming rate.

"Godzilla's speed has reached 370 meters per second! It's far beyond our capabilities! At this rate, we'll be within its attack range in ten minutes!"

Terror gripped the personnel as they watched the unfolding disaster. The transport aircraft and mobile base vehicle were nowhere near fast enough. If Godzilla reached them, a single breath attack would wipe them out completely.

There was no time to question why it was pursuing them. No time to wonder how it had found them. Right now, all they knew was that their carefully planned retreat was in complete disarray.

Commander Sato, overseeing the operation, felt an unfamiliar sensation creeping in—genuine unease. Even when the initial operation had failed, he had only sighed in resignation. But now, for the first time, bewilderment crossed his face.

How did Godzilla know they were retreating?

How did it pinpoint their exact location?

Was it mere coincidence, or did it have some unknown means of tracking them?

Questions flooded his mind, but he had no time to find answers.

Survival came first. Everything else was secondary.

If he made the wrong call now, the entire evacuation force would be annihilated.

"Change course! We're not returning as planned! Have the transport aircraft and mobile base vehicles head directly into the sea at full speed! We'll circle back from the ocean! Don't ascend—stay low!"

His voice cut through the chaos as he barked out orders.

"Disperse the transport aircraft! Spread out across different parts of the sea! Don't let Godzilla track us all at once!"

Sato exhaled sharply, steadying himself. He turned to his officers.

"Gentlemen, it's time for us to go."

The officers went pale. They understood what that meant. Sato was preparing for the worst.

"There's little time left," Sato said, stepping toward the door. "If it's safe, we'll return. This is just a precaution."

He motioned for them to follow.

Meanwhile, Godzilla, now within sight of the Osaka metropolitan area, fixed its gaze on the small dots in the distant sky.

It began preparing its breath attack.
