Moss had gained a lot from her journey to the Dragon Ball world.
At the Lookout, she inherited the soul of the wish-granting Shenron. She also learned a full set of energy techniques, and in the Realm of the Kais, she acquired a mysterious new form—power that surpassed her limits.
At this moment, she was feeling fantastic—like Sun Wukong returning triumphant from his training at Mount Potalaka, full of confidence and flair.
When she reappeared, her companion looked at her curiously and asked, "Why do you disappear for exactly thirty hours every month? And you completely vanish without a trace."
…That kind of sounded like a monthly cycle or something.
But yes, it did happen once every month.
Moss didn't bother arguing and simply smiled, "That's a secret."
Then she asked, "So, what's up?"
He replied, "To help the two worlds develop together, someone proposed launching an annual World Digimon Tournament, starting this year. A Digital Council has already been established.
"There'll be individual matches—teams of one Digimon and one partner—and group matches too."
Moss understood right away. It was basically the Tenkaichi Budokai (World Martial Arts Tournament) concept, and the team match was like the World Cup.
This setup could definitely promote cooperation between the human and digital worlds.
For the Digital World, receiving human Digi-Soul would accelerate evolution and overall development.
For the human world, it would create a whole industry around the tournament, generate jobs, reduce social tension…
In short, there were many benefits.
Sure, drawbacks existed too—but one can't avoid action just because of fear.
"So what does this have to do with me?" Moss asked. "I can't even participate."
She was a Digimon, after all. She couldn't bring another Digimon as her partner. Even if she had the ability, the rules wouldn't allow it.
If the rules were bent just for her, the whole competition would lose its fairness—and without fairness, it'd lose all meaning.
And letting someone else partner with her? Not happening.
Even if they were the most beautiful girl in the world.
"No, you wouldn't be a contestant," he clarified. "The Digital Council wants you to be one of the official ambassadors. If possible, they'd also like you to serve as a referee, judge, or guest commentator."
There were all kinds of Digimon—humanoid, beast-like, and so on.
Moss, in her Angewomon form, had become wildly popular after leading humans and Digimon to defeat Belphemon last month.
She was currently the #1 most requested Digimon partner on DATS's global rankings—by a landslide.
In short, she was hot right now. The Council wanted to ride the wave, save some marketing budget, and boost visibility.
Moss asked, "Since I'm one of the ambassadors, who else is representing the Digimon side? I only care about that."
She didn't care about the human representatives.
He said, "Aside from you, the other Digimon ambassadors are Kudamon, BanchouLeomon, and Mercurymon."
Kudamon made sense.
BanchouLeomon's inclusion surprised her at first, but considering his efforts alongside Spencer Damon to promote human-Digimon harmony, it made sense.
But Mercurymon?
While the original story showed him leaning toward the pacifist side, she never imagined he'd be interested in such a campaign.
Moss pondered aloud, "Forget about the judge and referee stuff. But I can show up as an ambassador."
"Great! I'll get the paperwork sorted."
Her companion really had become like her personal manager—handling social tasks and events with surprising skill.
As for Goblimon, Mushroomon, Otamamon, Gekomon, and Kunemon—they'd followed her loyally for two months and worked hard. Maybe it was time to reward them.
Using telepathy, she asked Angewomon, "What if I use my Digi-Soul to evolve them?"
Angewomon replied, "Your Digi-Soul likely doesn't match theirs, so it'll take a lot more."
Digi-Soul compatibility mattered a lot. If the match was good, a little went a long way. If not, you'd need 100–1000 times more.
Moss shrugged, "That's fine."
She had Digi-Soul stockpiled from her adventures—enough to reach Burst Mode-level power. Even if compatibility was low, she had the volume to make up for it.
Plus, she wasn't drawing evolutions for herself anymore—she was saving for a guaranteed hit. Might as well spend some to let her underlings enjoy a spin at the gacha wheel.
Win-win.
Angewomon said, "If you're okay with it, then go for it."
Moss had another idea: "What if I teach them magic to make their temporary forms semi-permanent?"
Angewomon hesitated. "They lack the environment and probably don't have the talent."
Magic required talent—or brains.
Moss sighed. Compared to other protagonist Digimon teams, hers really was... second-rate.
Maybe only her companion had the potential to learn magic.
But he leaned more into sci-fi and psychic powers anyway.
Still, you never know. Even Agumon had variants like Professor Agumon—maybe one of these oddballs would surprise her.
—
The next morning at dawn, Moss gathered them all on the DATS rooftop.
Tap tap tap—
Her high heels clacked against the concrete, crisp and confident.
With hands behind her back, she set the mood before saying, "You've been following me for a while—especially you."
He brightened.
"You've worked hard, so I'm giving you a reward."
He perked up even more. "Really? I'd like a mystical stone! Something ancient and magical!"
Moss smiled. "Keep dreaming."
Which meant: nope.
"Aw…" he deflated.
Moss pivoted: "But I will give you what all Digimon crave... evolution!"
The others gasped in excitement.
He scoffed, "Sure, most Digimon are driven by that primal urge, but not me. I've evolved past the need to evolve."
Moss was genuinely impressed. "Wow, I didn't know you had that kind of restraint."
"Hmm~" He puffed out his chest proudly.
"Alright then. Who wants to evolve first?"
Goblimon, Mushroomon, Otamamon, Gekomon, and Kunemon all raised their hands immediately, faces glowing with excitement.
Moss looked around and chose Kunemon.
"We'll start with you. Let's hope you learn to talk after evolving."
Kunemon was a yellow caterpillar with a menacing face. Definitely not a protagonist-type Digimon—more like an early-game enemy.
"Digi-Soul, inject! Evolve before me, Kunemon!"
She pointed at him and infused his body with Digi-Soul from her sealed storage.
Because he was a pure, simple Digimon without complex thoughts, the evolution went smoothly.
Swoosh!
A giant cocoon enveloped him. Moments later, it disappeared—so did Kunemon.
In his place stood a massive hornet.
Flymon.
A Champion-level insect Digimon with four ominous red wings. Its flight produced a paralyzing roar, and its armor was strong enough to crush enemies with its claws or venomous stinger.
…Definitely not a good guy.
And still couldn't talk.
"Next."
Moss still had plenty of Digi-Soul, easily enough for evolving Champion-level Digimon.
She turned to Otamamon.
"Digi-Soul, inject!"
Normally, Otamamon would evolve into Gekomon—but this one must've gone rogue. He turned into a massive sea serpent.
MegaSeadramon.
Moss muttered, "A whole crew of villains, huh…"
Flymon, MegaSeadramon—her team was looking more like a gang of henchmen.
She glanced at Gekomon. He'd probably become ShogunGekomon.
"Full Digi-Soul injection!"
Sure enough—ShogunGekomon.
Next was Mushroomon.
"Digi-Soul, inject!"
He became Woodmon.
Another goon-type Digimon.
Moss sighed, then looked at Goblimon.
"I'm ready, boss!" he said, hyped.
Probably going to become Ogremon...
