Chapter 14 - Stop Blaming Her

At the Graystone family residence, in the luxurious activity room, Sophia Morisson was furious when her call to Aurora's phone failed to connect. She stood in shock, staring at her cell phone screen.

After quietly expressing her frustration, she sank into the sofa and gazed into the corner of the room. Her eyes narrowed as she focused on the woman in the black-and-white maid uniform standing nearby—Lana, her maid.

With a glance, Lana seemed to sense that Sophia needed her help.

"Yes, Madam. Is there anything I can do for you?" Lana asked as she hurried over to Sophia.

Sophia snapped, "Lana, did you see what just happened? Did you see it? Aurora blocked my number! How dare she!" She tossed her cell phone onto the couch beside her.

Lana was stunned. Fearing Madam would also scold her, she politely answered, "Madam, that's impossible. How could she? You are her master's mother." Her response only fueled Sophia's anger.

Sophia grew increasingly frustrated as she remembered what had happened the previous night. The plan to arrange Alex's marriage to Heather, the only daughter of the Green family, had been a total failure.

"She did, Lana! I tried calling her last night to scold her because Alex refused to marry Heather for a ridiculous reason, but I couldn't reach her. And just now, I called her again, but I still couldn't get through!" her voice rose one octave, high enough to convey her fury.

Sophia's dark gray eyes filled with worry as she stared at her cell phone, hoping Aurora would call back. After waiting a few more minutes, nothing happened.

"How could Alex get married without us knowing? Why didn't that silly Aurora tell me if he's already tied the knot?" Sophia couldn't believe what she was hearing. She suspected her son was simply making excuses to avoid the arranged marriage.

Lana felt completely confused about how to respond. After all, Sophia was her boss, while Aurora was the daughter of their leader.

"Madam, I'll ask Mr. Moon about it. Perhaps he can help get in touch with Aurora," Lana suggested.

"No need," Sophia interrupted. "I'll ask him myself." She then picked up her cell phone again to call Thomas Moon.

Just as Sophia was about to dial Thomas's phone number, the door swung open, and Matthew Graystone appeared with a stern expression, startling both Sophia and Lana.

"Matt, what are you doing here?" Sophia asked, confused to see him in her activity room. It was unusual for him to come looking for her. Usually, either Thomas or one of the maids would come to find her if Matthew needed something.

Matthew said nothing but stared at his wife with concern.

"You arrived at the perfect time, Matt..." Sophia said warmly as she approached him at the doorway.

"I was just about to call Thomas. Where is he? I need to talk to him about his daughter. That girl is giving me a headache. I just realized she blocked my number." Her high-pitched tone revealed her annoyance.

Sophia felt confused when her husband remained silent. However, his gloomy eyes fixed on her.

"Matt, why are you giving me that stare?" she asked, reaching out to take his hand.

As she felt the coldness of his hand, her confusion deepened.

"Matt, what happened? Can you tell me what's worrying you?"

After a few more seconds, Matthew finally found the words to speak. "Thomas just called me. He's on his way here from the hospital."

"Why did Thomas go to the hospital? Is he unwell?" Sophia asked, surprised.

"No, he's not unwell. Aurora... She died in a car accident after leaving our house last night. Alex is currently in the hospital. He will be taking Aurora to the family cemetery to bury her there in a few hours."

Sophia's knees went weak as she grabbed Matthew's arm to steady herself. She was shocked.

In the corner, Lana covered her mouth, holding back tears.

"Sophia, I beg you, stop speaking poorly about Aurora," Matthew said, his gaze directed at her, radiating disappointment. "She is no longer a threat to Alex. You can cease any plans you have in your mind..."

Matthew felt upset with Aurora after hearing about his wife's anger toward her the previous night. However, upon hearing how devastated Thomas was while describing Aurora's death, he began to feel sympathy for her.

"Yes, Matt, I will stop blaming her..." Sophia whispered, cradling her slightly trembling hands.

At GS Hospital.

Aurora squinted at the unusual white ceiling as bright light filled her vision.

'Where am I?' Aurora wondered, glancing around the room.

Surprisingly, she noticed a man with curly brunette hair sitting in a chair beside her bed. His bright gray eyes looked at her with relief.

'David?! What is he doing here? Where am I?!'

Ignoring David, who was already standing up to call a nearby nurse, she tried to recall what had happened to her.

A slight smile appeared on her dry lips as she remembered what happened just before she lost consciousness.

Noticing that she was no longer in her wet clothes but instead wearing a hospital gown, Aurora let out a deep breath as she tried to sit up in bed.

Before she could get comfortable, David helped her adjust the pillow behind her.

"Thank you, David," she said, her voice hoarse like a man's. She cleared her throat.

A glass of water appeared in front of her almost instantly, without her needing to ask. With a gentle smile, she took the glass from David's hand and drank it in one go.

After she had placed the glass on the bedside table, the nurse and doctor arrived to examine her condition more thoroughly. She listened silently as the doctor explained her condition.

Aurora felt relieved to know she was okay. Although she was tired and had a high temperature due to a cold, her fever subsided after resting and taking fever-reducing medication.

The Doctor also approved her discharge, allowing her to return home without an overnight stay. He also reminded her about the wound on her leg and advised her to keep it dry for a while.

"Thank you, Doctor. Thank you, Nurse. Thank you for taking good care of me..." She felt gratitude as she looked at her hand, now free from the IV needle.

"You're welcome. Let us know if you still feel weak in the next several days, okay? Stay healthy, young lady," the Doctor said before leaving with the Nurse.

David followed them outside.
