Chapter 10 - Moving In

Well, well, if it isn't the lost sheep.

"Well, well," Sarah repeated after my thoughts, immediately I picked her call, "if it isn't the lost sheep."

"Coming from the ninety-nine abandoned," I clapped back, as I dragged my luggage up the stairs, the wheels clunking against them.

"Where the hell are you anyways?" she asked, "it's so noisy there."

"Long story, baby girl," I replied, "I'm moving."

"Where's she moving to?" I heard my brother's voice in the background, as inquisitive as ever.

"Hey Tim," I said.

"Hey sis. What's popping?" he said, taking the phone from Sarah, "I thought your school still has a couple more weeks before it closes? Is the semester over yet?"

"Not yet," I said and exhaled loudly, finally at the door to my new apartment, then added, "I'm moving out of the campus."

"What happened?" Sarah asked.

"Nothing really," I said as I pulled out the keys from my pockets, fumbling to find the right one to the front door, "just needed a change of scenery."

I could hear the confusion in the next couple of silent seconds, the doubtful stares they gave each other.

Where did mum get enough money to get Noa an apartment off campus? was their prevalent thought.

"And before you ask," I saved myself the time, "mum didn't get me the apartment. She doesn't even know I got it, I'll tell her when I'm settled."

"Where did you get the money?" they chorused.

"I and Harmony have been saving for a while now," I lied.

I heard a cough behind me and turned to Harmony, who had been there the whole time, and she raised her brow then mouthed, "you've got a lot of explaining to do."

I smirked, then refocused on my phone call.

"Congratulations, big sis," Sarah said cheerfully, "We'll be coming by more often to say hi. Take a video of your place, okay?"

"I got you," I replied, "how's school going?"

"So far, so good," Timothy said, "except for this tiny witch. She's leeching off me."

"That's why you're my big brother, isn't it?" Sarah laughed.

"Shut up. Go wash those mugs," he shooed her.

"I've gotta go, guys," I said as I walked in the master bedroom,"I'll send you some money later, okay?"

"Ohhhh!!" Tim exclaimed, "you're a real one sis."

"Whatever, remind me though, I might forget."

"Wanna bet on it?"

"Noa, you are a liar," Harmony emphasized the word using the fingers to draw into the air.

"Girl," I laughed.

"My goodness," she gasped, "you're seeing a rich man! He got you this place."

"I wish," I shrugged, "would've been much easier to explain."

"No pressure, baby girl. I'll always be here to listen."

"You're sure you don't want to stay here?" I asked her, knowing very well we'd has the conversation the day before when I got back to the dorm room after paying the rent and that she'd made up her mind.

"You know how it is, love. My dad's too much of a stalker to let me live off the campus. He's got eyes on me all the time," not that I didn't already know, but I had to give her the opportunity to explain, or it would seem I didn't care enough.

"I'll come see you all the time though, you know that," she added, poking me lightly on the shoulder.

I smiled, "I know. Thank you for helping me out with my stuff."

"You're welcome, princess," she hugged me tightly, "come around, okay? Don't lock yourself in this… Heaven."

"You're exaggerating," I said chuckling, "I'll be always here, okay?"

"I love you too," she sniffed.

I let out a huge sigh when Harmony finally left the house. I walked into the kitchen, opened the fridge grabbed an apple and munched noisily. Everything else was a little too quiet, except for the humming of the air conditioning unit and I didn't know whether I liked it or not—the silence.

I then went into the master bedroom, I sat on my new 14-inch bed and stared at the ceiling wondering where to begin, and if there was anything these powers were meant for, aside giving me a life of luxury—when I heard my name… .
