When Melisa's eyes lifted again, she hadn't expected to meet Mr. Wei's gaze.
His eyes, sharp and unreadable, didn't flinch away. He studied her like she was a chess piece he'd already decided how to move.
"Melisa," he said, his tone measured and calm, "there's an important project collaboration coming up between our company and Soveir Enterprises. You'll be assigned to work on it."
There was a shift in the air.
Some glanced her way in surprise, others stiffened—faces betraying poorly hidden irritation or disbelief. Even the department head seemed briefly startled before schooling his expression into indifference.
Mr. Wei's gaze passed over them all like a silent warning before returning to her. "The department lead will provide the details."
No more explanations. No opportunity for anyone to object.
