The room was heavy with tension. Witches, alphas and so much more. The crackling fire did little to warm the cold dread that coiled in Opal's chest. Her hands trembled, but she folded them tightly in her lap, keeping her face steady. If she was going to be Alpha, she couldn't fall apart now.
Ash paced by the window, his shoulders rigid, his silver eyes burning with frustration. His fists were clenched, his jaw tight, and his movements were sharp, restless. He looked like a predator ready to pounce, his anger barely contained.
"For weeks, we've been running, fighting, barely surviving... and now we find out there are two witches after us?" His voice was sharp, tinged with bitterness. "Not one, but two? How are we supposed to keep safe from Elena and Azaela?" He spun to face his father, his eyes blazing. "What are we supposed to do, Dad?"
