The morning sun peeked through the dense canopy of trees, casting dappled shadows across the forest floor. Opal stood in the pack house kitchen, her arms crossed as she watched Ash devour his fourth stack of pancakes. His silver eyes gleamed mischievously, his posture relaxed, completely oblivious to the tension swirling inside her.
She took a deep breath, her fingers drumming against the counter. "I need to talk to you."
Ash looked up, his mouth full of pancake, his eyebrows raising in mock surprise. "Oh no. What did I do this time?"
Opal rolled her eyes, her voice dry. "Nothing... yet."
Ash swallowed his bite, a grin spreading across his face. "That's not ominous at all."
Opal's chest tightened, her voice firm. "I'm meeting with some Alphas today. Alphas who know about witches... who've fought them before."
Ash's face darkened, his silver eyes narrowing. "You're what?"
