Opal's POV
The car ride home was tense.
Well, for Ash, at least.
Opal, on the other hand, was thriving.
She lounged in the passenger seat like she was on a luxury vacation, one leg crossed over the other, picking at invisible lint on her shirt while humming under her breath. Meanwhile, Ash gripped the steering wheel like it was the last thing tethering him to sanity. His jaw was clenched, a vein throbbed in his temple, and his left eye kept twitching like a faulty circuit.
The rage practically steamed off of him. It was delicious.
She waited a few more minutes just to let him stew in it.
Then, with a content sigh, she turned toward him.
"I think that went really well," she said brightly, propping her chin in her hand.
Ash said nothing.
"I mean, sure, none of your carefully curated suitors worked out," she continued. "But I got a caramel iced coffee and kissed Kael on the cheek in front of you, so I'm calling it a win."
Ash's grip on the wheel tightened audibly. "Don't."
