-Why wouldn't you give him a chance?
Luther's father's voice rang across the room, demeaning answers. He was annoyed. It was clear from the way he tapped his foot on the marble floor.
-I saw him. He's not ugly.
-He's been so deep in "the garden", he might as well be called a gardener.
-You're being ridiculous, scoffed his father. He is resistant to your poison. Do you know how rare that is? So what if he had his pulling "weeds" time? He's an alpha.
-I don't care. I am not seeing him again.
-What are you looking for is a needle in a goddamned haystack. An alpha who didn't pick a flower or two? You're stubborn for nothing. At least give him another date.
-Will our family survive financially without making a deal with Akna Pharmaceutics?
-I mean… yes, but why waste the opportunity?
-I am not an asset to be negotiated, sir. I am not seeing him again!
The old man scoffed unsatisfied. He looked at his son. Standing at 5' 9" feet height, with a solid presence, he was not a sore sight for the eye. Yet he was the most stubborn man he ever encountered and he was a well-known guy.
-Fine. We'll search some more, but don't forget you're 27. Your womb is getting old and that is not a great look for the guy dealing with the fertility issues of the country.
-I'll retire young then, scoffed Luther.
His father let an involuntary chuckle out. He waved his son goodbye and left the office without another word, leaving Luther frustrated by yesterday's dinner events.
A knock disturbed his trail of thoughts.
-Sir, your 2 pm appointment sent another representative instead, announced Lucia.
-Weird. Why would Thomas send someone else? He insisted on meeting and catching up since college , Luther mumbled to himself. Let them in, Lucia, thanks!
Killian entered the room smirking ear to ear. Instinctively, Luther took a step back in shock. He was hearing his own heartbeat ringing in his ears.
-What are you doing here?
-I'm proving my qualities here. I am an ambitious man who hates giving up.
-More like a stalker who doesn't know what "no" means.
-Isn't taking no for an answer a good trait?
-Take one more fucking step and we'll see what the court says about that buddy, hissed Luther.
Killian chuckled amused. Luther was trying his best to sit tall and steady in front of him, but the dark circles below his eyes betrayed that last night's encounter impacted him.
Just like it took a swing at Killian's sleep schedule. He couldn't close his eyes without seeing Luther's slip-of-character face. It was just for a moment he saw it. The trembling plump lips, the twitching eyebrows and those purple eyes gleaming with fear. The lack of sleep wasn't what made Killian relentless, but that face.
-I am here for business, Killian cleared his throat.
-Right…I'm surprised Thomas sent someone else instead of coming personally.
-Oh, do I have competition?
-Darling, I'm so far out your league, we're playing different sports.
-Oh, don't worry, I'm the best at catching any type of balls.
-How lovely, scoffed Luther. So, mister Killian, what is the head of a multi-billion-worth pharmaceutical company doing here representing the CEO of our partner law firm?
-Well, I brought some documents. You may be aware that Akna Pharmaceutics deals with 60% of both stimulus and heat-repressing drugs on the lawful side of the market.
-Skip the rub and tug of your ego and get to the point.
Killian couldn't help but smirk at the comment. Who would have guessed that the stuck-up, up-tight, virgin head of the fertility affairs of the state would use such sexual remarks?
-Our company started to develop a new drug that would reduce the level of poison in omega scents, making compatibility and fertility skyrock.
-You're kidding…
-Not at all. We both know how fertility is an issue not only in our country, but worldwide. With this new medicine, couples wouldn't have issues in procreating. We just need the state's approval so the whole thing becomes legal, you know? We would even share a cut of the profits with the state. Say like, I don't know, 15%?
-Get out!
-That's not how negotiations work, babe. I was really ready to give 25% if you would have asked me nicely with a kiss.
-Given the history between Akna Pharmaceutics and my family, I would act like I haven't heard anything, but if you don't get out this instant I burn your company to the ground with you in the middle of the flames!
Luther was serious. The veins on his forehead were popping up. His eyes were piercing Killian's to the point he felt a shiver on his spine. The scared, confused, conflicted omega from yesterday's dinner completely morphed into a predator out for blood.
Killian took a big breath trying to grasp the severity of the situation. The main focus was to make his new drug legal so he needed to calm Luther down and get him to approve the documents.
-Why? This new medicine could do wonders in the department you're leading. Why are you so angry with me?
-Cuz you're a moron. The toxins given by an omega's scent are there to protect him. Let me break it down for you so your way too-smooth brain would understand. What is society's opinion on weeds? What's their social and financial status?
-I personally love an omega without a toxic scent. I think they are great so I don't see your point.
-Fucking alpha. Of course, you think about omegas only in the areas you benefit. Weeds are seen as cheap, ready to get down with any disgusting moron walking down the streets. They are seen as baby-making machines, being trafficked for both this and for the process from where the baby results. Since they have no pheromone to protect them, the whore houses are full of them. The majority are living in poor neighborhoods, because of their reputation they can't get well-paid jobs. They are discriminated against, used, discarded, and barely treated as persons.
-Then what about you, poison? What if it could cure you?
