The rest of the day was spent on what Verena could only describe as the worst talent scouting mission in history.
With Beatrice reluctantly in tow, they went around interviewing potential candidates from their class, only to find that competence was a rare and mythical creature.
Their first interviewee was Edwin, a boy with round glasses and the energy of someone who hadn't slept in three years.
"So, why do you want to be part of the Eclipsor LGU?" Verena asked.
"I don't."
She blinked. "Then why are you here?"
"I was promised free food."
"…Who told you that?"
Edwin pointed at Beatrice.
"It was the only way to get people to show up."
Verena buried her face in her hands. "Next."
The second interview was worse.
Verena and Beatrice sat across from Celeste, a girl who had a thousand-yard stare and a concerning number of conspiracy theory notebooks.
"What's your leadership philosophy?" Beatrice asked, deciding to take the lead.
