Chapter 13 - 13: A Unique Defense Against the Dark Arts Class

Until before going to bed, Avada was listening to Sharpie and the other three roommates talking endlessly about Hufflepuff's achievements in diet and the cooking magic that was said to be left by Helga Hufflepuff herself, which almost made him hungry.

Fortunately, a senior arrived in time and stopped this evil act of poisoning late at night. Then he went to the kitchen and brought back a plate of fragrant baked cookies...

In the end, Avada still couldn't resist the temptation and ate several cookies with tears before going to bed, so that he didn't eat much breakfast the next day.

What's more tragic is that the first class in the morning was the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Avada just learned from Sharpie yesterday that the real Defense Against the Dark Arts class is very different from what is shown in the original book: Since you have to defend against dark magic, you must fight, right? Since you have to fight, you must have a good body, right?

Therefore, the Defense Against the Dark Arts class not only teaches various evil curses and dark creatures, but also has the functions of physical education and combat classes. It was normal for students to go downstairs and run around the Black Lake, or put on protective gear to practice in pairs.

"I hope there won't be any strenuous activities in the first class..."

Avada prayed secretly, following the Hufflepuffs into the defense classroom, followed by the Ravenclaws wearing blue lined wizard robes - this made Avada feel a lot more at ease, so that at least even if there were confrontations, they wouldn't encounter the brave Gryffindors.

When the bell rang, a tall, thin, and well-mannered middle-aged wizard stepped into the classroom, smiling and waving to the students.

"Good morning, everyone! Although Principal Dumbledore has already introduced me at the beginning of the school year, in order to avoid some of the little guys being too excited and not listening carefully, I still have to repeat it..."

He turned around and raised his hand, and the chalk floated up by itself, writing a name neatly on the blackboard.

"Benjamin Baker, a member of the board of directors of the International League for Defense Against the Dark Arts, is also an adventurer. I have been on adventures in Greece, Eastern Europe and Africa, and have fought against dark wizards and dark creatures many times. So I believe I have some experience in dealing with dark magic, and I should be able to be your professor and teach you enough practical knowledge."

"He must be very cool." Avada heard a faint voice coming from Ravenclaw, which seemed to be a girl: "He is an adventurer and has been to many places! Maybe he is as cool as Gilderoy Lockhart!"

"When I first started, many old professors told me..."

Professor Baker ignored the subtle discussions below and continued to himself: "They told me that freshmen should feel the charm of this course in their first class in order to stimulate their interest and enthusiasm. So, I specially prepared this thing..."

He took out a magic prop that looked a bit like a projector from under the podium, then took out the magic wand and pointed it at his temple. He slowly drew out a white filament of light from it, and then merged it into the "projector".

  "Everyone, pay attention."

He tapped the projector with his magic wand, and the device projected a light screen in the air, which played a dazzling picture in the light screen, Professor Baker was holding a magic wand and fighting fiercely with a masked man in a gorgeous black robe.

The masked man swung a few blue light blades to force Professor Baker to dodge to the side, and then, as if foreknowledge, he sent a brilliant green light to the place where he was about to land. At this time, the land under Professor Baker's feet melted like water, allowing him to blend into the ground and avoid the green light.

Then, Professor Baker suddenly appeared from behind him and gave him a fireball. The masked man quickly put up a shield, but he didn't expect that everything was just an illusion. The real Professor Baker was standing invisible not far away, condensing an extremely powerful spell. When the masked man found out that he had been fooled, he immediately set off a raging flame and burned everything around him indiscriminately, forcing Professor Baker out.

Afterwards, the two began a fierce head-on battle, sometimes fighting hand-to-hand, using wands and magic like daggers to kill; sometimes keeping a distance, pouring all kinds of gorgeous and powerful spells on each other like a waterfall. Later, the masked man even summoned a giant dragon, whose iron claws and fiery breath put Professor Baker in danger.

After fighting for nearly ten minutes, Professor Baker was more skilled. After killing the dragon, he used the terrain transformed by Transfiguration, illusion and invisibility to deceive the masked man's charged attack, and seized the opportunity to attack fiercely and completely defeated the opponent.

The light screen playback ended here. Professor Baker put away the projector and looked at the students below with satisfaction. At this moment, they had already lost their minds, with a bit of tension and excitement in their pale faces, and even forgot to breathe.

Professor Baker clapped his hands to wake them up, and the classroom suddenly sounded one after another.

  "Merlin, it's so scary!"

"When the dragon suddenly appeared, my heart seemed to stop beating..."

"And that purple light arrow, I was shocked when it hit the professor's shoulder..."

Avada was slightly better, but he was also shocked. The battle played on the screen just now was comparable to a blockbuster movie with a high budget. The distance shooting scene was no less exciting than the battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort in the movie "Order of the Phoenix", and the close combat was like the most exciting martial arts movie, with a fast and fierce rhythm.

Professor Baker's mental power was obviously weaker than Dumbledore's, but he didn't expect it to be so terrifying in actual combat!

Professor Baker let the students discuss for a while before clapping his hands and letting the classroom return to silence. A look of reminiscence flashed across his face before he spoke.

"What was just played was the most thrilling and proudest battle in my adventurous career. Although it is certainly far inferior to the epic duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, it also has a certain commemorative value."

He paused and continued, "The opponent at that time was a Greek. You may have heard of his title, 'Aethelred the Always Prepared'. He once reigned in Greece and was a terrifying dark wizard who almost became the 'Shadow King'. His name is on the Chocolate Frog picture."

"Like his title, Aethelred is extremely cautious, and when he is fully prepared, he will be almost invincible. At that time, I was investigating his dark wizard organization in Greece and defeated many of his capable subordinates, so he wanted to kill me himself."

"He started laying the groundwork months in advance, investigating my information, spreading false information, sending attacks to consume my energy, and using spies in the local Ministry of Magic to put pressure on me... At the same time, he created an extremely sinister venue as a battlefield to end my life. It is anti-Apparition, and once you enter, you cannot leave. The air is filled with toxins, and there are curses on the ground..."

"Fortunately, I was not completely unaware, and many of his methods did not work. But even so, I almost died under his traps and strong personal strength, but in the end I won. It was after this battle that I won the honor of being a director of the Dark Arts Defense League."

Looking at the excited and admiring eyes of the young wizards in the audience, Professor Baker couldn't help but reveal a smile: "Then I guess now, everyone has fully understood the charm and function of Defense Against the Dark Arts. So, let's start our first lesson-"

  "How to use your wand."

"Many people may be curious about what kind of course this is. Isn't using a wand just holding it, waving it and chanting spells according to standard procedures? This is indeed the case in daily life, but if you encounter a fierce battle, these alone are not enough."

"How should a wand be held most smoothly and stably? What kind of posture should be adopted in battle to cast spells most quickly?"

"These are the most important basics of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Even senior Aurors may not be able to study them thoroughly."
