Chapter 1 - 01 The Accident

It's already 12 midnight but Jay is speeding in the midst of the heavy rainstorm. His eyes are full of tears, making it impossible to see. No other cars were present. Then a sudden lightning hit the middle of the road.

It made Jay lose control on the slippery road and swerved into the sidewalk where a man is seen walking. His car ran over the man before it flips over and made Jay unconcious.

The bright light was blinding eventhough his eyes are closed. He slowly regains conciousness. He can feel pain on his head and his right arm is broken. He sat down. All he can see are endless white and a man lying beside him.

The man next to him is in a worse condition than him. His head is bleeding heavily and looks like he won't be able to move his whole body. Jay was in panic but he can't even ask for help. No one's around but then a mysterious voice can be heard.

"Two humans are present in front of me. One is injured and one is nearly dead. Only one of you will survive. I will give you the power to choose. Who will be given the second chance? "

Tho voice faded away. Jay had understood what it meant. He carefully assessed the situation. He looked at the man, a complete stranger to him, beside him. The man besides him looks younger by 5 years, a college student. His injuries are very serious and would require major surgeries. He looks like he won't regain conciousness any moment. The decision lies solely on Jay's hand.

He tightly grasped the almost cold hand of the stranger.

"I've made my decision. This is for the better. "

After Jay has stated his decision, everything went black.

A doctor has been standing for hours beside the patient's bed. He looks anxious waiting for the patient to wake up.

He was about to leave for the night, but the patients finger jolted. He waited for the patient to open his eyes.

The doctor broke into tears as soon as the patient opened his eyes. He shined a flashlight on the patient's eyes to see if he is responsive.

"Jay, can you hear me?" Asked the doctor while examining Jay. Jay looks disoriented. His eyes keeps looking around. "Can you speak? How are you feeling?"

"Am I at a hospital?"

"Yes. You were in a 3 day coma after your car accident."

"Car accident?"

Jay tried to examine his body by himself. He can move his toes. He can lift his left arm. His right arm is casted. He has a gauze in his forehead.

"Thankfully, your injuries are not very serious. Your right arm is broken and you have a mild concussion. You just need sometime to rest and undergo some few tests."

Jay is still looking confused. He's trying to think deeply, trying to remember what exactly happened.

"Doctor." Jay called. The doctor tilted his head in confusion and annoyance.

"Doctor?" The doctor repeated, confused why Jay is adressing him this way. "Are you still mad? Is this your payback? Are you pretending you don't know me?"

"Am I suppose to know you?" The doctor got irritated by Jay's response. He grabbed Jay's face in anger until his cheeks are squished. They stared down into each other's eyes. The doctor's eyes looks angry and hurt while Jay looks confused and afraid. The doctor decided to calm down and released Jay.

"Are you being serious?" The doctor asked. Jay didn't respond, thinking one wrong word could agitate the doctor again. The doctor sighed and brushed his hair. The doctor is deep in thought and after a few minutes, he had reached a conclusion. He sat on Jay's bed and looked at him with a longing gaze.

"What was the last thing you could remember?"

Jay's eyebrows furrowed as he was trying to think. He raised his left arm and looked at it. Not only the environment looks unfamiliar but also his own body and the doctor in front of him.

"I can't remember anything."

"What do you mean? What's your name?"

" You' ve called me Jay so I guess it's Jay."

"And my name?"

"I don't know."

"Where do you live? "

"I don't know."

"What's your job?"

"I don't really remember anything." Jay claimed and looked the other way as if he doesn't want to talk anymore.

The doctor tried to reach for Jay's head to caress but stopped in the middle. He noticed that as he hands reached for him, Jay flinched in terror. He stood up and decided to leave Jay alone for now.

"I'll let the nurse know you're already awake. You still need to get some more rest. Let's continue our talk tomorrow."

Jay sighed in relief with the doctor's presence gone. Eventhough he just woke up from a coma, he's already feeling sleepy again so he decided to do so.

The next morning when Jay woke up, the sight of a nurse checking on his IV drip greeted him. When the nurse notices that Jay is already awake, she hurriedly left to report this to the doctor.

A few minutes later, a doctor different from the one last night entered the room. He 's the same age as the doctor from last night.

"Where's the doctor from last night?" Jay asked.

"Well, he's busy at the moment but I've already talked to him last night. " The doctor stood near Jay. "I've heard that you said you can't remember anything. Do think you've seen me before?" Jay shook his head. "How about your family?" Yet again, Jay shook his head.

"Hmmmm... I think the speculation of you having an amnesia could be correct. We don't know yet if its temporary due to the shock of the accident so just to be sure we reccommend you to stay here for another week. We would observe your behavior and run some tests.

While you're here get enough rest so you could recover. "

The doctor left and closed the door. He stopped as soon as he went outside. He tapped the shoulder of the guy standing in hidden and eavesdropping to his conversation with Jay. It was the doctor from last night.

"Hang in there."
