Chapter 2 - Heat

Felix tried his best to resist Jared. And it was working. It really was…

Until.

An ordinary, sunny afternoon. Felix was going about his day, taking care of his chores, even though recently, all the tasks he was assigned were suspiciously close to where Jared - whom Felix was trying to avoid! - were. But no matter how unpleasant (well, at least as far as his emotional state was considered) Jared's pungent scent was to Felix's nose, he had to endure. He was already at odds with most of the pack, dodging his duties would only make it worse.

And then it happened. Out of nowhere, without a warning.

His heart started beating faster, as a heat wave swept through his whole body. Gasping for breath, Felix grabbed onto the counter, trying to support himself as his knees went weak. It wasn't just his knees though, his whole body was suddenly devoid of any strength, and although he tried to hold on desperately, clinging to the edge of the counter as if it was his lifeline, his sudden weakness overtook his determination. Slowly, but surely, he slid onto the floor, his mind hazy and his vision blurry.

And the worst of all, sweet scent bringing to mind milk chocolate started filling the room. He couldn't control his pheromones.

It didn't take long before the door opened.

"Felix?" Jared walked in. "What are you-"

The Alpha didn't get to finish his sentence, because his mouth was blocked by a kiss. Felix, who just a second ago was lying on the floor, felt a surge of strange energy the moment his… mate appeared, and pounced on the man.

No matter how much he hated Jared, the fated bond between them was stronger than his feelings. Now that he was in heat, no longer in control, his body reacted instinctively, clinging to his mate for relief.

What happened next was hazy. And, thank Goddess it was, because those were moments Felix never wanted to recall. All he remembered was himself, all soaking wet, tearing clothes off Jared…

And, well, Jared didn't resist.

The next Felix knew he was on the bed, all naked, all sore, and all covered in hickeys.

"…Fuck."

Felix lifted himself up with difficulty, wrapping his arms around his knees, and burying his head. He was fucked. He had been fucked, so he was royally fucked. Now that they did it, his and Jared's bond would be even stronger… And, while at least they didn't mark each other, there was no way the Alpha would ever let him go now.

Damn this fated mate bond.

Damn it all.

Ignoring the ache in his whole body, Felix scrambled out of bed. Jared was gone, already up, but who knew when he'd be back? Not to mention, he didn't bother cleaning Felix up, so his legs were all disgusting and sticky.

His legs almost gave in as he stood up, but Felix supported himself with the wall. He quickly scanned the room, but his clothes were nowhere in sight… Well, that was to be expected. They started out in the room next to Jared's office, and both undressed somewhere along the way to his bedroom. A nice, considerate mate would have prepared a change of clothes for him afterward…

But how could Jared ever be considered 'considerate'? The thought probably never passed his mind, and Felix was not surprised.

Well then, he'd have to do with some of Jared's clothes for now then. As appalling as it was to wear the Alpha's clothes, all covered with his stench, it wasn't as if Felix could just flounce back to his room butt naked. He'd just have to scrub himself extra hard a few times… He had to take a looooong bath anyway, as he could still feel the remnants of Jared's touch all over his skin.

He slipped on a clean T-shirt and a pair of joggers, way too big for his slender frame, and slowly opened the door, popping his head out into the hallway.

Coast clear, he was good to go.

He stepped out, quietly closing the door, and crept down the hallway…

"Felix?"

Felix's shoulders flinched at the sound of the voice. He paused in his steps, and slowly turned his head, trying to force his lips to twist in a casual smile. "Oh, hey, Tyler."

Of course, out of all the people, the one to catch him had to be Tyler. Felix's long time crush.

How was he supposed to explain himself, given his attire? Not to mention Jared's stench clinging to him…

As it turned out, there was no need for any explanation, because Tyler smiled at him with care. "How are you feeling? How did you like your first heat?"

…It seemed that everyone already knew.

"Tyler…" Felix muttered, wanting to say something, but not knowing what.

If he said he hated it, would Tyler even care? Previously, after Felix discovered Jared was his fated mate, everything between them was still the same, but now… Judging by the smile on Tyler's face, he wasn't in the least concerned that Felix ended up with someone else.

Tyler stared at Felix for a while, before approaching the Omega, and placing a hand on his shoulder. "Felix, listen to me. I understand that you don't like it. I know you've never been fond of Jared, but it's time to grow up. Don't try to resist the inevitable. He's your fated mate."

A huge lump blocked Felix's throat, making it almost impossible for him to breathe. He lifted his head, his face drained of all the blood, and hesitantly met Tyler's gaze.

And his heart completely dropped to the ground. Shattered into thousands of tiny pieces. Leaving his chest empty and cold. Devoid of any emotion.

Just like Tyler's gaze.

Tyler patted Felix's shoulder a few times and stepped back. "Just accept it. Think about it, as Jared's mate, you're going to be the Luna of our pack! Isn't that great?" he added, before turning around and walking away.

Leaving Felix alone in the empty hallway, with his last hope completely squashed, the last thing he cared for in this pack gone.
