Chapter 22 - Chapter 2: A New Ally

Everything in school was running its usual course until David and Everlyn, both new students, began to lend more life to school. Everlyn had already started a commotion with her very lively character. It was impossible not to notice her charm and energy; she was definitely going to be a major influence.

The light, confident footsteps of Everlyn guided her towards the student council room that afternoon. Rumors spread like wildfire in school, and one of them was about the much-respected student council president, Emi, who had earned her place at the top among school leaders, and it held major repercussions. Everlyn wanted to introduce herself with the really proper welcome and the joining into something usually seemed like a great way to integrate into the school, and for her, the student council was the place that she was looking for.

As she neared the door, she held up at the threshold, inhaling all her confidence for the moment she would take step inside. Emi was at the desk and beating some papers, but when Everlyn walked in, she looked up and surveyed the newcomer with sunny eyes.

"Hi, you must be Emi, the student council president, right?" Everlyn greeted, showing every personality trait, she had formed being cheerful.

Emi blinked for a second, clearly surprised but quickly recovering. "Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you, Everlyn."

Everlyn extended her hand, smiling openly. "Glad to really meet you! I have heard so much about you—everyone says that you are the one who really makes things happen around here."

Emi shook her hand, intrigued by Everlyn's bright demeanor. "I wouldn't say I make things happen. I just do my part. But thank you, that's kind of you to say."

"Oh, that's what I'm all set to do too! I wanted to be a part of the student council; I really look forward to interacting with more people, and I've heard you're the one to go to about all that." Everlyn's eyes glowed with excitement.

Emi smiled, recognizing the enthusiasm with which Everlyn approached the idea. "It's always nice to have a new face wanting to join in. The council is quite full, but if you're serious, I want you to fill in the form and come along to our next meeting. Ideas and energy are always welcomed."

Everlyn nodded excitedly. "Absolutely! I'm all in! Just tell me what I'm doing."

"I'll get the form to you tomorrow," Emi said in a warmer voice. "We're happy to have you. Welcome to the team."

Everlyn grinned broadly, bouncing happiness all around her. "Thanks so much, Emi! Can't wait to get started!"

Stepping out, Everlyn felt accomplished as she had just made a great first impression on student council president of the school. Her plans were already underway. All that had to be done now was think about the future, and what was going to happen within the 'council'.

Later, in the classroom

Ren patiently watched Everlyn return to her seat. While Emi had already made nice with her new classmate, Ren was still apprehensive. The girl's effortless charm left him feeling quite unsteady. It made him think that there was something she was possibly hiding behind her amicable facade.

Ren's dark stare followed every movement of Everlyn. She was that sort of girl who would merge into anything and twist it for her advantage without looking out of place. The bad part was that he did not trust her yet and was not sure about the reason. But something about her made him think that she was always acting something, if not under her cheerfully false appearance.

Meanwhile, Aoi fell under the radar of awareness with the action going on around her. She was diving deep into her sketchbook, thus not really focusing on the things around her. Everlyn didn't mean anything to Aoi unless her life twisted into it, and right now, her art and the area around did not really give anything she wrangled her attention with. The small entrance changes could be felt, but then again, they weren't great enough to pull her attention away from her work.

Aoi was the kind of girl who wouldn't bother with such things. She could try winning everyone to her friendship, but Aoi understood that it was rarely worth the energy unless something more personal was attached to it. The classroom changed around her, but she remained fixed on her own thoughts, her pencil dancing across the page as her mind wandered into the quiet world of her art.

Ren could not be easily distracted by these incidents. Ren's instincts were screaming in their sharpness that Everlyn was the type to initiate changes without others detecting them immediately. But then again, Aoi was lost in her world, unfazed by the changes in the social dynamic.
