Chapter 10 - Summer of Gensokyo

As Soul came into the Magic Forest, she looked like she was 14 to 17, as she groaned.

The girl looked American as she spoke. "Where the hell am I?"

"Welcome to the afterlife".

The girl turned her head, and then had instead nosebleed, as she saw the shirtless angel born in Front of her, as she spoke in her mid. "Please tell me this is heaven".

Chris just looked at the girls, while yes he is Yokai he should be effected by the summer heat, will all Yokai had a weeknes, and his was heat, and today was way too hot then normal, like some turn of the Sun power, which he had a feeling a Cirten blond was behind, so he took of his Normal hoodie and jacket and going shirtless.

Chris sighed as he wiped some sweat from his forehead, looking at the dazed girl in front of him. "Alright, let's get a few things straight. First, you're in Gensokyo. Second, no, this isn't Heaven or Hell—it's more like… somewhere in between. And third," he pointed at her, "are you okay? You're staring kinda hard."

The girl shook her head, trying to regain her composure, though the bright red blush on her face remained. "Y-yeah! Sorry, it's just… wow. You look like some kind of angel."

Chris smirked. "Yeah, I get that a lot." He stretched his arms, flexing slightly, much to her flustered reaction. "Anyway, what's your name?"

The girl finally snapped out of her trance. "Uh… my name's Emily. Emily Carter. And I seriously have no idea how I got here."

Chris nodded. "Right, that happens sometimes. You're probably one of those rare cases where the Border thinks you're dead when you're not. Happens once every 200 years or so."

Emily looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings. "So… what happens now? Do I just wake up back home or something?"

Chris crossed his arms, thinking. "Depends. Sometimes people just wake up in their bodies again. Other times, they gotta wait a bit before they get kicked back. For now, though, you're stuck here."

Emily sighed, still trying to process everything. "And what am I supposed to do in the meantime?"

Chris grinned. "Well, since you're here, how about a little tour of Gensokyo? Might as well enjoy the sights while you can."

Emily hesitated, then nodded. "Yeah… sure. Better than freaking out, I guess."

Chris smirked, turning to lead the way. "Good answer. Let's get going before some Yokai decide to make things interesting."

Emily looked at him as she spoke. "So, um... What is the deal here".

Chris spoke looking at her, as he stretched his angel wings. "Angel Gude of Gensokyo when Souls come to this place, these are Limbo Souls that die an unnatural death, end of here, then I guide them Up there or bellow there".

Emily's eyes widened as she watched Chris stretch his wings. "Wait, so you're like… an actual angel? You help souls move on?"

Chris smirked. "Eh, something like that. I'm more of a Yokai than an actual angel, but yeah, my job is to guide lost souls—whether they go up or down depends on their karma."

Emily processed this for a moment before speaking. "So... does that mean I'm dead?"

Chris tilted his head, looking at her closely. "Not necessarily. You don't feel like a full spirit to me. More like... someone who got pulled in by mistake."

Emily let out a nervous chuckle. "Great. So I'm a glitch in the afterlife?"

Chris laughed. "More like a paperwork error in reality itself. But don't worry, it usually sorts itself out. Until then, just try to enjoy your time here."

Emily looked around, still taking in the strange yet beautiful scenery of Gensokyo's Magic Forest. "So… what kind of place is this exactly? And what's with the whole 'Yokai' thing?"

Chris nodded, deciding to explain. "Gensokyo is a land sealed away from the modern world, filled with humans, gods, spirits, and Yokai. Yokai are basically supernatural beings—demons, monsters, spirits, you name it. Some are friendly, others… not so much."

Emily blinked. "And you're one of them?"

Chris grinned, flexing his wings again. "Yup. Even though people call me an angel, I'm technically a Yokai. But don't worry, I'm one of the good ones."

Emily let out a breath of relief. "Well, that's comforting... So, uh, what now?"

Chris smirked. "Now? I say we find a way to cool off before I melt in this heat. You up for a trip to the lake?"

Emily wiped some sweat from her forehead and nodded. "Yeah, that actually sounds perfect."

With that, Chris led the way, the summer sun beating down as they made their way through Gensokyo.

Chris then spoke. "So, your luck today; I am kinda free, so until your soul returns to your body, I am your guide".

Emily raised an eyebrow. "Wait, my soul is supposed to return to my body? How does that even work?"

Chris shrugged. "Sometimes, when people die under weird circumstances, their souls don't fully detach. If that's the case, you'll probably wake up back in the real world soon. Until then plus you aren't actually did, I guess you're stuck with me."

Emily sighed but smiled. "Well, if I have to be stuck somewhere, at least it's with a hot angel guy."

Chris chuckled. "Flattery will get you everywhere, but I should warn you—I already have a harem."

Emily mock-gasped. "A harem? What is this, an anime?"

Chris smirked. "You're in Gensokyo. Everything here runs on anime logic."

Emily rolled her eyes playfully. "Of course it does… So, what do we do now?"

Chris stretched his arms, flexing his wings again. "Well, first, let's get out of this heat. The lake isn't far from here. I could use a swim, and I'm guessing you wouldn't mind cooling off either."

Emily nodded. "Yeah, sounds like a plan. Lead the way, angel boy."

Chris chuckled as he started walking. "Just don't expect me to carry you there princess-style."

Emily smirked. "Damn. And here I thought dying would get me special treatment."

The two continued towards the lake, the summer sun shining brightly over Gensokyo.

They started to walk through the Magic Forest when they heard the voice of a girl.

"Hey there, Hot stuff, who's the girl with you?".

Chris looked and he saw it was Marisa as she was on a magic broom, as she blew a kiss at him, which was more magic even playful

Chris caught the playful magical kiss mid-air, absorbing the energy with a smirk. "Nice try, Marisa, but you'll have to do better than that if you're trying to charm me."

Marisa chuckled, resting her chin on her hand as she hovered. "Oh, I ain't tryin', just havin' some fun. So, who's the newbie?"

Emily blinked, still processing the fact that a girl was casually flying on a broom. "Uh, I'm Emily. Apparently, I died, and now I'm stuck here until my soul returns to my body."

Marisa grinned. "Died, huh? Well, ain't that a lucky break, getting Chris as your guide. Bet you're enjoying the view." She winked at Emily, motioning toward Chris's shirtless torso.

Emily crossed her arms, feigning nonchalance. "I mean, I won't deny it's a nice view, but I'm still trying to figure out what the hell is going on."

Chris sighed. "Marisa, as much as I enjoy your teasing, we were actually heading to the lake to cool off. It's way too hot today."

Marisa stretched lazily. "Yeah, no kiddin'. Feels like someone cranked up the sun. You sure this ain't Yukari messin' with ya?"

Chris rubbed his temples. "I have a feeling a certain blonde is responsible, but I'll deal with that later. Right now, I just want to swim before I melt."

Marisa smirked. "Mind if I tag along? Could use a break myself."

Chris shrugged. "Sure, why not? The more, the merrier."

Emily sighed. "Yeah, sure, why not? At this point, nothing surprises me anymore."

With that, the trio continued toward the lake, Marisa playfully twirling her broom in the air as she followed along.

As they walked Chris looked at Marisa. "I don't think it is Yukari".

Marisa floater next to her boyfriend as she spoke. "So who... Oh the other blond".

Chris blushed remember a Cirten girl. "Yeah, Junko".

Marisa raised an eyebrow. "Junko? Seriously? What'd ya do to piss her off this time?"

Chris sighed. "I might have rejected her last time she tried to drag me off for a private 'chat'."

Marisa burst out laughing. "Ohhh, you definitely pissed her off. No wonder it's hotter than usual! She's probably throwing a divine-level tantrum."

Emily, still trying to wrap her head around all of this, looked between them. "Wait, wait, wait—so this Junko person can just... mess with the sun because she's mad at you?"

Chris nodded. "She's a pure being of resentment. If she's angry, reality around her tends to feel it."

Emily groaned. "Great. So you're telling me my first near-death experience includes dealing with god-tier jealous exes? Fantastic."

Marisa smirked, playfully nudging Emily. "Welcome to Gensokyo, kid. Where this is just a normal Tuesday."

Chris shook his head. "Regardless, we need to cool off before I actually start feeling the effects. Let's hurry up before Junko decides to turn this into an oven."

Chris looked at Emilia as she spoke. "Also Junko is not my Ex, I may have a few of them, but she is still part of my harem, just like Marisa over here".

Emily blinked, a bit confused. "Wait, so... Junko is still part of your... harem?"

Chris nodded, clearly unbothered. "Yeah, I've got a few... complicated relationships going on, but that's Gensokyo for you. Not everyone is exactly what you'd expect them to be."

Marisa chuckled from beside him. "I'm not even surprised anymore. It's not like there's some unwritten rule about who can be in or out. And if Junko wants to throw a tantrum, let her—she's still part of the deal."

Emily shook her head, trying to digest all of this. "Okay, I don't even know where to start. So, this is normal for you? Having a bunch of powerful beings in some kind of... weird harem?"

Chris shrugged. "Eh, it's not really my choice. It just happens. I guide souls, I get attention, and some of those souls have very strong feelings about it. Next thing I know, I'm in a harem with gods, demons, and yokai."

Emily groaned and put a hand to her forehead. "I don't know what I expected, but this definitely wasn't it. So, you're telling me, just... whatever happens here is... normal?"

Chris smiled a little. "Pretty much. You'll get used to it, eventually."

Marisa threw her arm around Emily's shoulders. "Trust me, by the end of the week, you'll probably be wondering why you didn't join the chaos sooner."

Emily shot them both a deadpan look. "Yeah, that sounds like so much fun."

The Trio kept walking, as Emily looked at Marisa as she looked at her. "Chris must be so done with his Harem, right?".

Marisa let out a laugh as she spoke. "Not gonna go into much detail, but Chris didn't have the best life, so when it comes to attention he fucking loves, he loves all the type of Attention he gets, from us, from the people jealous of him, and people that don't like him".

Emily raised an eyebrow. "So you're saying, Chris enjoys all this chaos? The jealousy, the drama, all of it?"

Marisa grinned. "Oh, yeah. He's the type of guy who thrives on it. You have no idea how much attention he used to crave back when he was... you know, just a normal guy. Now he gets to have everything—girls, power, recognition—and he absolutely soaks it all in."

Emily glanced at Chris, who was walking ahead, seemingly oblivious to the conversation. "I mean, I get it. People want attention, especially after not getting it when they were younger, but isn't it a bit... exhausting?"

Marisa shrugged. "You'd think, right? But for Chris, it's like a game. He doesn't take it too seriously. He loves the attention, sure, but he also knows how to keep it light and fun. And, honestly, that's why everyone likes him. It's why we're all in this weird, dysfunctional harem. He's got a way of making everything feel exciting."

Emily frowned, trying to wrap her head around it all. "So it's all just... a game for him? The drama, the attention, the harem?"

Marisa smiled knowingly. "In a way, yeah. But don't get it twisted—Chris is serious about the people he cares about. But he also knows how to enjoy himself. And hey, in a place like Gensokyo? That kind of mindset makes life a lot more fun. Trust me, you'll see soon enough."

Emily looked at Chris again, still processing everything she'd heard. "I just don't know if I could keep up with that kind of lifestyle."

Marisa chuckled. "You'd be surprised. Stick around long enough, and you might just end up loving the chaos as much as he does."

Emily sighed, resigned. "I think I'm going to need a lot more time to adjust."

Marisa winked at her. "Don't worry, you'll fit in. It's not all about the drama; it's about the adventure. And Chris is all about making sure the adventure never ends."
