Then Liam entered the room, looking a bit anxious. "Is it over?" he asked his uncle.
"Yup! You should take him with you to our apartment. There's a room available—just ask Jigemna about it," his uncle replied.
"Wait, Jigemna is back here?" Liam asked, surprised. His uncle nodded, and we began to walk out.
As we moved through the streets, I couldn't help but feel a bit awkward. I glanced up at the clouds, and for a moment, they looked just like Amour! My heart raced, but when I rubbed my eyes and looked again, it had vanished.
I missed her so much. It felt like she was slipping further away from me, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I needed to find her again. The streets felt both familiar and strange as we walked, and I couldn't stop thinking about the last time I saw her—the way she smiled, the way she seemed to understand me in a way no one else did.
"Hey, you good?" Liam asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah, just thinking," I replied, trying to sound casual, but I knew my voice was a bit wobbly.
"About what?" he pressed, and I could tell he was genuinely curious.
"Just… stuff," I said, not wanting to dive into my feelings about Amour right now.
"Alright, but if you need to talk, I'm here," he said, clapping me on the back.
We continued walking, I could see Liam glancing at me, probably wondering what was going on in my head. I just hoped I could figure things out soon. I really wanted to understand what was happening with Amour and why I felt so connected to her.
We reached an old apartment that looked like it had seen better days. The walls were a bit cracked, and the paint was peeling, but there was a certain charm to it. On the small counter bench at the entrance, Liam knocked a couple of times.
A small gate behind the counter opened, and out popped a cheerful face. "Hey, Liam! Nice to see you!" Jigemna exclaimed, his eyes lighting up. He looked like he was in his late twenties, with a messy mop of hair and a friendly smile.
"I wanted to ask you about that empty room that my uncle mentioned," Liam said, leaning on the counter.
"Sure thing! We have one available on the second floor," Jigemna replied, nodding eagerly. "It's cozy and has a nice view of the park."
"That sounds perfect," Liam said, glancing back at me. I nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. It was strange to be in a new place, and I wasn't sure what to expect.
"Do you have any stuff you need to move in?" Jigemna asked.
"Just a bag, nothing too heavy," I said, trying to sound casual.
"Great! Let's get you settled," he said with a bright smile.
As we walked up the creaky stairs, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. Would this place be a good distraction from everything I was feeling? Would I have a chance to think about Amour without being overwhelmed? I hoped so.
Jigemna opened the door to the room, and it was surprisingly nice. It had a small bed, a desk by the window, and a view of the trees swaying gently in the breeze. "What do you think?" Jigemna asked.
"It's nice," I said, trying to sound enthusiastic.
"Just let me know if you need anything! I'll be around," he added before leaving us alone.
Once Jigemna was gone, I plopped down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Liam leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. "So, how do you feel about all this?" he asked.
"I don't know, it's… different," I admitted, still feeling that twinge of longing for Amour. "I just wish things were simpler."
"Yeah, I get that. Just take it one day at a time," Liam said, trying to reassure me.
I nodded, but deep down, I knew I had a lot to figure out.
I was missing Amour a lot. It was already 7 PM, and I kept thinking we would've met by now if I hadn't come here. I couldn't stop thinking about her, and it made me feel all weird inside.
I turned to Liam and asked, "Did you tell your family about this whole staying thing?"
He nodded like it was no big deal. "Yeah, I told them while you were with my uncle."
That just made me more upset! "I'm still mad at you!" I puffed out my cheeks. "If you had told me earlier, I could've brought a pair of clothes!"
Liam just laughed at me, not taking me seriously at all. "Chill out, we can figure it out tomorrow."
But I wasn't done. I crossed my arms and let out a big, dramatic humph. It felt like the biggest disaster ever! No extra clothes, and all I could think about was Amour. Everything felt like a mess!
"I have too not brought anything up," said Liam casually.
"Don't talk to me!" I huffed, puffing out my cheeks in frustration.
"What did you bring with you then?" asked Liam, sounding curious.
I grabbed my bag, stuck my hands inside, and began pulling things out one by one.
"Huh, let's see… face wash, a towel... and—oh my God—underwear! I can't believe it, I actually packed underwear! That's pure luck!" I exclaimed, feeling oddly relieved.
Liam laughed anxiously, "Satisfied now?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah! I'm so happy!" I said, my eyes practically glowing with relief.
"But what about me?" Liam whined dramatically. "I didn't bring anything, and I'm not even wearing underwear!" He pretended to wipe away fake tears, making a big show of his misery.
Jigemna came in and said, "Dinner's ready! You can get it from the Deckhand."
"Oh yeah, we didn't eat anything the whole day!" Liam said, sounding super hungry.
"Let's go, Allan," Liam called.
"I don't feel like going. Can you get mine for me?" I asked, feeling lazy.
Liam nodded and left with Jigemna. Now I was alone in this old, quiet room. I opened the window and looked outside. It was really dark. I kept thinking about Amour. Was she waiting for me? Was she worried? But then I saw something weird.
In the park, there was a girl sitting on the swing. She looked familiar. She stopped swinging, got up, and looked right at me. It was Amo! How did she know I was looking at her? And why was she here, so far from Killiney?
