Chapter 6 - Somebody's Upset

Freya sat at her desk, uncharacteristically silent. She wasn't fidgeting with her hair, wasn't throwing teasing remarks at Ashton, wasn't even trying to get his attention.

For the first time, she wasn't acting like Freya. Her face was different from every day she looked pale as if something is bothering her. She didn't spoke a single word not only to Ashton but with other classmates as well.

"Yo, Ashton I guess someone is jealous.." Darwin compiled.

"Yeah I know."

"Should I go talk to her ? which I don't really want to do " Ashton asked

"Why do you care if she is not clinging to you….. wait don't tell me you still want her."

"Umm not really."

"Come on bro she's not worth it. You can legit date any girl out there in the entire school and you choose an attention sucker. Why do you even care I know she's thick, but I would suggest you not to..." Just then Mrs. perry walked in the class and the bell rang.

Mrs. perry she's the class in charge, a very well-mannered and probably the most loved teacher at the school. She wasn't very good at teaching but everyone specially boys liked her because she the exact representation of what a milf is. Brunette, tomboy with huge boobs and hips, her waist was unimaginably tiny making her curves standout. She is always wearing a plain white shirt and a tight knee length bodycon skirt highlighting her curves.

She wore a red lipstick which went well with her nail which was painted red. There was no guy in the school which didn't like her for of course two big reasons which were on her chest.

Everyone went silent and rugging noise of students getting back to their seats were heard. Jenny who was still in class, sitting with Emily grabbed her bag and left as she's not from that class.

With this the lecture had started. Freya sitting in the next row of Ashton, hasn't said anything yet.

As the class dragged on, Ashton tried to focus, but his phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out, keeping it under his desk.

Jenny: Hey, thanks for agreeing to be my partner. I was really nervous asking you lol.

Ashton sighed and typed back.

Ashton: Darwin kinda forced me into it, lol.

Jenny: Yeah, but you didn't say no, did you? :)

He stared at her message for a second. Before he could type a response, another message popped up.

Jenny: Also, are you free after school?

His brows furrowed.

Ashton: Why?

Jenny: I wanna go shopping for outfits for the show. I could use some help picking something.

Before he could even think of a response, Darwin peeked over his shoulder and saw the messages.

"Ayo, she's asking you out already?" he whispered from behind.

"Shut up," Ashton muttered.

Darwin smirked. "C'mon, bro. Are you going or not?"

Ashton hesitated.

Before he could answer, a low whispering voice from the side cut through their conversation.

"I didn't know you liked nerdy girls."

Ashton turned his head sharply.

Freya.

She wasn't smiling as she always does instead, she had a deadpan look on her face which totally didn't gave a good vibe.

"Shut up Freya, I don't like her." Ashton said with a eyebrow furrowed and his face in a little uncomfortable look.

"Really?"

"Even if I do, why does it bother you?"

"Oh, so are you saying you like her."

"Calm down you guys are too loud." Darwin cut in between but neither of them pay attention to his words.

"Did I said I liked her? I asked why does it even bother you?" Ashton's voice getting louder

"Be quiet, you're being too loud. Mrs. perry will peg you. Stfu ." Darwin trying to get the situation under control, but no one was listening to him.

"It means you like her." Freya muttered.

"Why do you even care." This time Ashton's words were loud enough to reach Mrs. perry.

"What's going on?" Mrs. perry asked pausing in between of what she was teaching the class.

 Ashton and Freya snapped.

"Told ya to be quiet." Darwin whisper hiding behind Ashton's back laying his head down.

"Is there a problem, Ashton?"

"No, Mrs. perry Freya had some doubts."

Freya stares at Ashton in a shock after what he has said.

"Freya if you have doubts ask me. Don't disturb Ashton."

"Sure, Mrs. Perry." Freya replied.

Now they both sat quietly but there was a tension between them as if the silence was screaming loudly. Ashton had really liked Freya and He's not the type of guy to play or date for fun anyone, but when he understood how Freya actually is, he pulled back. Freya would always be surrounded by guys and was always seeking attention which Ashton didn't liked.

Ashton is now in a bad mood. He sighs and thinks 'It is better if I don't go to home early the less, I stay at home the less interaction with aunt.'

He pulls out his phone under the desk and messages his mom.

Ashton: I will be coming late and also I have something to tell you.

The rest of the day dragged on painfully slow. Freya hadn't spoken a word to Ashton since their heated exchange, and something about it unsettled him.

She wasn't sulking or throwing snarky comments his way. She wasn't glancing at him, waiting for him to react.

She was just… quiet.

And for some reason, that silence was worse than anything else.

By the time the final bell rang, Ashton barely had time to stand before Darwin clapped a hand on his shoulder.

"So? You going with Jenny?"

Ashton exhaled sharply, pulling the hair rubber undoing his long hair and running a hand through his hair. "Guess I don't have a reason to say no."

Darwin grinned. "That's my guy. And bro, if Freya acts up again, just remind her she had her chance."

Ashton didn't reply. Instead, he grabbed his bag and slung it over his shoulder before heading toward the exit.

As he walked through the crowded hallway, he caught a glimpse of Freya near her locker.

She was standing with Liam.

And not just standing—laughing.

Liam had one hand resting against the locker beside her, leaning in just a little too close. And she? She was twirling a strand of hair, biting her lip in that way that usually made guys fall over themselves for her attention.

It was a performance.

A calculated move.

And Ashton knew exactly who it was meant for.

He scoffed under his breath and shook his head, refusing to give her the reaction she wanted. Instead, he turned away, pretending not to care.

But the thing was—

He doesn't care anymore.

"What a Whore!" Ashton hitched under his breath.

Ashton went home to freshen up and without making any noise he made his way to his room got freshen up without awakening the storm, his Aunt. Ashton made his way to the café where he was supposed to meet Jenny.

As he approached, he spotted her standing near the entrance, nervously fidgeting with the strap of her purse. She looked up, noticing him, and immediately straightened up.

"Hey," she said, offering a small smile.

"Hey," Ashton replied, shoving his hands into his pockets.

For a few seconds, neither of them spoke. The awkwardness sat between them like an invisible wall.

"So…" Ashton started, glancing around. "You, uh, ready to go?"

"Yeah." Jenny replied nervously.

"You sure you need me for this?" Ashton asked, raising an eyebrow.

Jenny let out a nervous laugh. "Honestly? No. But I thought it'd be nice, you know, to hang out."

Ashton nodded slowly. "Right."

Another awkward pause.

"Okay, let's go before this gets any weirder," Jenny said, brushing her hair behind her ear as she started walking.

They made their way toward the bus stop, the air between them still slightly tense.

Ashton cleared his throat. "So, um, how come you're into Fashion show and all? You don't seem like the type."

Jenny chuckled. "What's 'the type'?"

"I don't know. You're kinda… quiet in class. Thought fashion show kids were, like, always loud."

Jenny smirked. "Yeah, well, I like acting. It's fun to be someone else for a little while."

"Huh. Never thought about it like that," Ashton admitted.

"You ever tried?" she asked, tilting her head.

He scoffed. "Me? Acting? No way."

Jenny grinned. "You should. You already play the 'too-cool-to-care' role pretty well."

Ashton let out a small chuckle despite himself. "Guess I'm just naturally talented."

The bus arrived, and they both climbed in, taking seats near the back. The ride was mostly quiet, with Jenny occasionally glancing out the window while Ashton scrolled through his phone.

After a few minutes, Jenny spoke up. "Okay, serious question."

Ashton looked up. "Yeah?"

"Favourite movie?"

He thought for a second. "Probably Inception and la la land. You?"

Jenny's eyes lit up. "Ooh, good choice. Mine's Pride & Prejudice."

Ashton blinked. "Wait, like, that old romance movie?"

Jenny gasped. "That old romance movie? Excuse me, it's a classic."

Ashton smirked. "Whatever you say, nerd."

Jenny shook her head with a mock-offended expression but didn't argue further.

By the time they reached the mall, the awkwardness had mostly faded, replaced by a more comfortable silence.

An hour later, Ashton found himself in a boutique with Jenny, who was busy flipping through racks of dresses.

"Alright," she said, pulling out a black off-shoulder dress. "What about this?"

Ashton barely glanced at it. "Looks fine."

Jenny frowned. "Okay, you're literally the worst shopping partner ever."

He sighed. "I don't know anything about dresses, Jenny. Just pick whatever you like."

Jenny tilted her head, watching him carefully. "You seem distracted."

Ashton let out a humourless chuckle. "Yeah, well, let's just say today has been a lot."

Jenny studied him for a moment before stepping closer. "Is it about Freya?"

His jaw clenched.

Jenny sighed, placing the dress back on the rack. "Look, I don't know much about what's going on between you two, but… I think she's realizing she doesn't have you wrapped around her finger anymore."

Ashton let out a scoff, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah? And what, she suddenly cares now? i am not interested in her anymore, anyways."

Jenny shrugged. "People only realize what they had when it's slipping away."

Ashton looked at her, really looked at her. Jenny wasn't like Freya. She wasn't the type to play games, to string people along for attention.

Maybe Darwin was right.

Maybe it was time to finally stop thinking about the girl he wasn't even dating.

Who is nothing but a whore.

"Thanks, Jenny," he said, offering a small, genuine smile. But there was something he noticed 'How does she know about Freya ? She's spying or what?' He thought.

She grinned. "Anytime. Now, seriously, help me pick something before I regret dragging you here."

For the first time that day, Ashton let himself relax.

But in the back of his mind, he knew this wasn't over.

Because if he had learned anything about Freya—

It was that she never gave up that easily.
