After the game incident something I wish to forget about, I stare out the window one's more, observing the shapely green valley on the side of the road.
A few cars zoomed pass our own and the honking of a large truck was heard behind us leading Seth to driving to another lane to gave way for the truck and it's cargo to pass.
As it zoomed passed us, the red texture of it's paintjob gleamed with the sun's light casting a red hue on our windows. The sight made me flinch slightly as I remember the Morningstar incident but one's the light died down, I grew relief and decided to check on AI sitted beside me.
She was asleep having grow dull from the length trip. Leaning against the door, she had her eyes close, her silver hair of a moderate length dropping down pass her shoulder with a few resting on the side of her face to hide her side profile.
It was strange how such a cute girl could pack a punch more destructive than a tank. Right now she looked so at peace and defenseless that one might mistaken her for a noble child or even a fairytale princess but unfortunately she wasn't any of that.
Non of us were.
Facing the sad reality, my faced left AI and focused on the road. Now Seth had taken the right lane, performing a sharp turn towards the road leading out the highway.
In contrast to the crowded highway, the pathway we had moved to was somewhat dull. Well it sort of made senses, the highway onwards lead to Constelia while the path we had taken was heading to some isolated town.
Speaking of Constelia I remember Isis being from there. I knew this from reading her files. It said lot's of interesting things about her and from that also I discovered her sister was also a Demiurge.
I wondered if I would even get to work with her also. I was the only linker after all, it served to say I was going to work with almost 80%of the registered demiurge population.
"Boss we almost out of gas."
Bring the car to a halt on the side of the road, Seth looking at me from over his shoulder remarked.
"Are there any filling stations around?"
The Internet reception around this parts wasn't that great so I didn't brother with using my GPS.
"I could try ranning ahead to see."
"Do so!" I nod, followed by Seth stepping out the car, to stretch a bit.
Giving me a thumbs up from the outside, he soon crouched and with an explosive boom, disappeared in the distance leaving behind a trail of dust.
Seth was a speedster and seeing his abilities in display was surreal as always. He could be back in a second or so but knowing him, he take his time and return a few minutes later and more importantly I could see from the fuel meter, the fuel would last us a few more miles, enough to get us to our destination but he had left that out meaning his intention was me to have sometime alone with Isis.
His intention wouldn't have worked if AI also wasn't pretending to sleep. Originally I had thought she wasn't faking it but Seth's sonic boom would have awaken her up instantly but she didn't react meaning she was expecting it.
Honestly I didn't know why they were doing this but since they seem to have put in some effort, I decide to humor them. They were my team after all.
"So how have you been?"
Leaning forward and placing my head on the front car seat, I inquired.
She didn't respond at first but so too did my gaze never leave her causing her to feel annoyed. Normally she would have snapped but our confrontation earlier made it clear I could stand up to her so she gave in and response.
"Why do you care either way."
"Well you got corrupted under my watch and you're my teammate so I should care."
Expecting my words she bite her lips unable to find faults in what I said.
She has gone corrupted and as her commander and the anchor of her sanaity it made sense for me to be worried for both my safety and her's.
"Don't push yourself too hard next time." I said my voice tinged with worry.
"...." She furrow but didn't reply.
"I just want you to be safe, so don't do that."
"...."
"If you go corrupted, it's hurts my brain so please don't try that again."
"..."
"Going corrupt last time left me with a day full of frequent nose bleed, so just..."
"Will you shut it."
Snapping she pushed the car door opened and got out. Pacing around the side of the road with her arms crossed, she bit her lips, her gaze focusing on the distancing as if seeking out someone.
"Tch.....that clown.",
Making sure no car was coming from my side, I also joined her outside, making my way to her side of the road. Where I stood beside her leaving her more annoyed.
"What do you want?"
With a sharp glare,she said.
"Just some fresh air." I shrugged finding her annoyance amusing.
After everything I'll been through the pass week, I'll come to realize my team didn't particularly hate me. Well Seth use to but after the events of Morningstar he seems to now feels genuine respect evident by how he now called me boss instead of Commander.
AI seem to genuinely like me, so I was happy with that.
As for Isis, it wasn't hate she expressed but disbain. She helped me a lot but also seem to dislike my presence as if....
"Do I remind you of someone?"
I don't particularly remember doing anything that memorable for Isis to always dislike me. She also didn't seem like the type to hate me because I was a Linker after all she was a duty bounded person, someone whom saw the mission through by any means necessary. So with all the factors in place I came to one conclusion in why she hated me, it was because I reminded her of someone in some sort of way.
