Chapter 14 - Chapter Fourteen: Finding Her

Pov, Evander.

William's gloomy aura makes my heart tear up, I don't like to see him sad and stay still.

I couldn't stay mad at him for long.

I love my dad.

I go up to him and sit in front of him, and he just looks at me.

"Where's your mom?"

I'm waiting for an answer that'll satisfy my curiosity, but I hear him sigh and say, "It's a long story."

We exchange glances, and I frown, disappointed. I smile as I hold his hands affectionately. "I want to know everything about my dad, so whatever happens with you is important to me."

I can see his eyes watering, and he just stares at me without saying anything. I can't tell what he's thinking because of his enigmatic expression.

I feel his warm hand gently stroking my cheek, and then he pulls me towards him, making my body disappear into his embrace.

It's a nice feeling.

He pulls away from the hug, cups my face with his hands, and smiles at me. "Even though I hurt you, you didn't leave me."

He gently kisses my forehead, and I'm totally overwhelmed.

"I'm sorry, again." He says.

"When you're ready, just let me know. I'll be here," I say, smiling slightly. He nods and says, "Alright."

...

I've decided to look for that woman.

Or, well, my grandmother.

He might not want to spill the whole story, but I'll find out what I need to.

It's so dark outside, and everyone's asleep.

I lift my upper body off the bed as quietly as possible so as not to wake my dad, who's sleeping on the other side.

I grab a pen and paper.

I'm looking for that in my dad's office, trying to write a short note in my messy handwriting so he wouldn't worry about my sudden disappearance.

I put the paper down on the bedside table. I cover his body with the blanket and leave the room.

But I, uh.

I don't know anything about the human world, and I don't have any way to find her. I'll definitely get lost if I choose to venture out.

I've only got one solution.

I head over to the room where the guy I made shower with juice is sleeping.

I exhale, turn the doorknob, open the door, and walk toward his bed, staring at him.

You're going to help me whether you like it or not.

I swallow, thinking of a way to wake him up.

Hey, just a minute.

Go to hell.

I take the blanket and pillow off too, and I manage to get him to wake up in panic.

He opens his eyes really wide when he sees me, and I don't give him a chance to yell at me. I shut him up by covering his mouth with my hand.

He keeps fighting me until he stops when I glue my forehead to his and say in a whisper, "Don't scream. You'll wake everyone up. I need your help."

He raises his eyebrows, wondering why I'd come to him.

I take my hand away from his mouth when I'm sure he won't expose me, then I continue with my arms crossed. "I need you to help me find William's mother."

He stares at me, no words, a sneer on his face.

I expected it.

He stands up from his bed and we're almost eye to eye. "I'm not ready to listen to your jokes, clown."

He grabs my arm and yanks me out, all angry, and says, "Get out of the room before I kick your ass!"

"Please! I want to help my dad!" He stops what he's doing and stares at me with a shocked look on his face. "Your father?"

I nod, knowing I messed up and William's definitely going to be pissed, but I've got no shot.

"Yes, William is my father." I say.

He stares at me with narrowed eyes, and after a short silence, he crosses his arms over his chest. "William? Are you making fun of me? He said otherwise!"

I nervously bite my lower lip and rub the back of my head, trying to think of a lie that would make sense, and then I reply. "It's a long story. I promise I'll explain everything when the time comes."

"I need your help here."

I keep begging at him, clasping my hands together, then I flinch when he approaches me, a wry smile on his lips, his features becoming sharp. "Why would I do that? You forgot what you did to me, right?"

I take a few steps back and stare at him with a frown, and then it hits me.

I kneel in front of him, take his hand, and say, kinda fake, "I'm really sick, and I don't have much time left. I just want to do something nice for my dad before I go."

He keeps looking at my eyes, which are filled with tears that always stand by my side to get what I want.

"You're lying. Stop acting."

I failed.

Why is he so mean?

I get up from the floor, feeling disappointed and about to leave in resignation, when he stops me. I turn to him.

"I'll help you."

He takes a step closer and stands in front of me, pointing his index finger in my face.

"But on one condition."

"What's that?"

I smile big, I'm almost there.

But his miraculous condition makes my smile disappear.

He's a real freak!

...

I go into a dark place with this weirdo, and I'm hit with strobe lights that really hurt my eyes. I have to shield them with my arms.

There's loud music and people swaying all over the place.

What the heck is this place?

I'm not a fan.

"Where are we, Harry?" I ask the guy next to me in a loud voice so he'd hear me, and he starts adjusting my black sweater and putting a hat on my head.

"What are we doing here?"

I ask, watching the crowd of people with a look on my face that says I'm not comfortable.

He stares at me with a weird smile before pointing his index finger at a girl sitting with her friends chatting. "Do you see that girl?"

"The one in the red dress?" I say.

I'm confused and freeze up when he whispers something to me that I don't understand.

"I like her, so I want you to make me a hero in front of her."

"What?"

He gives me a pat on the back, then steers me in her direction.
