Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The bell rang, shattering the fragile connection. They scrambled back to their feet, avoiding each other's eyes. The tension in the air was palpable, thick enough to cut with a knife.

Joohyuk mumbled a quick goodbye and hurried out of the lab, leaving Minho standing there, surrounded by blue-stained lab equipment and a whirlwind of emotions. He didn't know what to think. Was he misreading the situation? Was Joohyuk just being friendly? Or was there truly something more developing between them?

The rest of the afternoon passed in a haze. He couldn't concentrate in class. His thoughts were consumed by Joohyuk's intense gaze and the unsettling realization that his own feelings were far more complicated than he had initially believed. He found himself replaying their interactions, searching for clues, for any indication that Joohyuk felt the same way.

He even caught himself stealing glances at Joohyuk across the classroom, only to quickly look away when their eyes met. He was acting like a lovesick teenager, and he hated it.

That evening, Minho found himself pacing his small apartment. His grandmother was out at her weekly bingo night, leaving him alone with his thoughts. He needed to talk to someone, but who could he confide in? He certainly couldn't talk to his grandmother. She would have a fit. And his other friends... they wouldn't understand.

He picked up his phone, his finger hovering over Joohyuk's contact. He hesitated. Should he text him? What would he even say?

He ultimately decided against it. He needed time to process his feelings, to figure out what he wanted. He couldn't risk ruining their newfound friendship with a rash decision.

He spent the rest of the evening lost in thought, wrestling with his emotions. He was attracted to Joohyuk, there was no denying that. But could he handle the potential consequences of a relationship with someone from a completely different world? The social divide, the disapproving glances, the potential backlash from their classmates... it was all too much to consider.

Sleep once again eluded him. He spent the night tossing and turning, plagued by even more confusing dreams. This time, the libraries were filled with rainbow colored liquid, and cherry blossom trees gave way to stormy skies.

The next day at school, Minho tried to avoid Joohyuk, but it was impossible. Joohyuk seemed determined to seek him out. He found him in the library, at his locker, even in the hallway between classes. Their eyes kept meeting, and each time, Minho felt that same jolt of electricity, that undeniable pull.

Finally, during lunch, Joohyuk cornered him in the cafeteria.

"Minho, we need to talk," he said, his voice serious. He led Minho out of the crowded cafeteria and into an empty classroom.

"What's going on?" Minho asked, his heart pounding in his chest.

Joohyuk took a deep breath, his eyes searching Minho's. "I... I need to be honest with you. I... I like you, Minho. More than just a friend."

The words hung in the air, confirming Minho's suspicions. He didn't know what to say.

"I know this is probably a lot to take in," Joohyuk continued, his voice laced with vulnerability. "And I understand if you don't feel the same way. But I had to tell you. I couldn't keep it in any longer."

Minho stared at him, speechless. He wanted to say something, anything, but the words wouldn't come. He was afraid. Afraid of the consequences, afraid of the unknown, afraid of letting himself be vulnerable.

Joohyuk seemed to sense his hesitation. "You don't have to say anything right now," he said gently. "Just... think about it. That's all I ask."

He turned to leave, leaving Minho standing alone in the empty classroom, his mind racing.

As Joohyuk reached the door, Minho finally found his voice. "Joohyuk," he called out.

Joohyuk stopped and turned back, his eyes filled with hope.

Minho took a deep breath. He knew he couldn't run away from his feelings any longer. He had to be honest with himself, and with Joohyuk.

"I... I think I might like you too," he said, his voice barely a whisper.

A slow smile spread across Joohyuk's face, lighting up his eyes. "Really?"

Minho nodded, a small smile forming on his own lips. He was scared, yes, but also... excited. Excited to see where this unexpected journey would take them.

"So... what happens now?" he asked.

Joohyuk stepped back into the classroom, closing the door behind him. He took Minho's hand in his, his touch sending a shiver down his spine.

"Now," Joohyuk said, his voice low and intimate, "we figure it out. Together." He leaned in closer until their lips met for a soft, tentative kiss. The world seemed to melt away, leaving only them, in that empty classroom, embarking on a journey that would change their lives forever. The taste of his lips was exactly as sweet and dangerous as he had imagined.
