It was all cold. The setting sun, the breeze, the field, the soil. Everything was cold. But it wasn't shivery. The evening colors were dancing all so beautifully across the sky. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in. It was of course cold but there was a sweetness to it. Familiar yet unfamiliar. Across the field was a lake. She could hear the cold water. She could smell it to be precise. It was all so peaceful, so calm.
She didn't know what field it was, not that she cared. She heard a rustle and opened her eyes quickly. In front of her was standing a man with golden eyes. He had a wierd shade not just for eyes but for hair too. It seemed to be black originally but somehow slowly turning white so his head was this mixture or black and white making his head appear gray. But she couldn't care for it much. She was locked in the eyes.
"Wow..." she mumbled.
"Sorry.." but he didn't hear her.
"Your eyes.. they were golden just now.. but now they are blue.." she was visually in an awe. They were pretty. She was mesmerized for sure. Not really seeing the man himself but only seeing eyes on him.
"Oh.. um.. yes.. and you are?" He almost gave her a smile but soon realized that the lady was far too busy staring at his eyes.
"Amara." She said nonchalantly.
"Amara? You are Amara?.." although she missed it but the man was clearly shocked. "You came back..?"
This time he finally managed to get her attention. She looked at him, confused. She was seeing him the first time and this field too.
"You.. came back.. you are back.."
"You know me? Wait then why did you ask?"
"I can't see anymore, Amara." He said in a very small voice. "I don't hear anymore.. I can't smell too. All that's left of me is the feel of me. I'm the breeze you feel, the plants you touch, the land you stand on. I'm gone Amara, let go off me..."
"W-what..?" She actually wanted to say wtf. But she was seeing this person for the first time. "What are you talking about?"
"Let go, Amara!" He said a little sternly. And then he started chanting it. Each time louder than before till he was yelling at her. "LET GO, AMARA! LET GO OF ME! LET GO, AMARA!!" The sky suddenly started to turn red and so does his eyes and she saw him melting. Skin, flesh, bones, blood.. all melting.
Every cold suddenly started to feel to be on fire.
She was screaming at this point. Not just from the horrific sight but she was burning too! There were no flames, but everything was burning.
As the man melted to the ground in front of her, she screamed in horror and pain, waking up.
The first thing her eyes met were a pair of eyes shining bright like a cat in the dark.
"Shh.. shh... it's gonna be alright! Shh shh. We are almost done. Almost there.." a male voice said.
"Sod.." she whimpered from pain. Her insides her of fire, turning upside down as if. Everything was on fire. She felt like almost passing out cause of pain.
"This time it'll work. Trust me! This is a treasure. We are gonna make it this time, I promise, my love." Sod said caressing Amara's sweaty hair.
"No.. no.. stop please! Please..."
"Just a little.. bit more.. and.."
And Amara's scream was all there was for a long moment. So painful lungs ripping screams. But there was no mercy. Her arms and legs were tied stretched away from her torso. Not much room for her to wiggle. Her legs were open apart and Sod was committing his lord knows which numbered experiment with only lord knows what. He was clearly putting, actually placing something in her, she could tell.
It wasn't the first time Sod has placed some weird thing inside her for sake of some sick ritual, but this was the first time she felt like this was it. She was dying. She was in so much pain. Burning.
"What is it! Take it out of me please! Sod please! No no stop please!!"She was in and out from pain and all the screaming.
"Here." His voice was smiling. "Done. All set." He said cheerfully getting up from between her legs and walked to her face. Blew a kiss and walked away. "Now we both rest and wait till it adjust itself little and soon aur baby will be here in.. um.. some months!" Oh yes he really was happy.
For a long time after he left she kept screaming and crying from pain till she couldn't anymore and passed out finally.
There she entered another vision.
She saw herself out In the world. But this world seemed a bit backwards. Everything seemed to be from the time she was out. It felt like she had never left the world. But she could tell it was not the same world. Everything was same but different. Perhaps because it had been soo long and now she was feeling.. awkward?
It was a market place. At first she stood in one place letting the scene in front sink in her head and then with a huge smile she went on a shopping spry. She was picking everything she saw. This was the only way and time she could enjoy all this. She was gonna enjoy all she could.
That day, she was in and out of consciousness constantly. Saw many things. Alot of things she was familiar with. Many things that she was used to off. Alot many things she neither understand nor wanted to understand.
Amara has an ability. She can feel the future. Alot of things she saw that day were her dreams while the others were incomprehensible visions she didn't care about at all.
These dreams and visions were her only salvation. Her safe place.
When she woke up, her eyes met Sod's.
"Hi, darling. Ready for the grand moment?" He said grinning. Amara wanted to puke at his sight. Sod stood there for some moments hovering over her with his dark eyes shining with excitement.
"Everything is done and ready. The incantations are spoken the embryo is placed the rituals are completed, and the wait is over now. You, my dear, are going to change the history!"
'Embryo? What embryo? He put what in me? An EMBRYO!'
Amara couldn't focus on his same old babbling About how this is the time to shine. She was confused and horrified.
"You must not remember now, but, I spent three days by your side lovingly performing this ritual. Now the time has arrived. You excited?!" He hopped in excitement. "Oh dear aren't you excited!" He said pulling her shirt away from her abdomen. He placed his hand on her and closed his eyes.
Soon his expressions changed. "No.. no.." she clearly heard him whisper.
He pulled her under a machine he made, it was his ultrasound device.
He checked and checked. And then there was silence. Complete silence. Amara could hear people far away across the forest where they were right now.
"I waited soo long.. this was my last hope.. you.. you are defected! Yes! You are defected!!" And he pulled the stretcher from under her, letting her fall on the ground.
She knew what was coming now. She had her jaw clenched. All ready.
"You can not challenge the god. He has created us this way! Accept it already!!" She knew what she was doing. She was provoking him.
Living in this lonesome, dark dungeon or should one say Sod's lab, she got a goal. A mission. Every corner of this place had her blood on. She had been assaulted to the brink of death everytime an experiment failed, everytime Sod wasn't feeling good. Everytime anything happened.
But it's different this time. She can feel it. He is more angrier than ever and she was more broken than ever. She can possible accomplish her plan this time. Dying. Dying in hands of the man she once loved soo much so that married him despite all the red flags, believing she could change him.
"Isn't that's what love is? Growing better together.." is what she had told herself and her family and friends.
She regretted.. soo much. She really did.
"NO! NO! NO!" He threw everything in a fit. And her plan was working too.
She could feel his rage in her bones cause that's where is was soon going to land.
Sod's hands clenched into fists. A tremor ran through his body, and then next thing she knew she was under him. His fists landing on her one after another. Giving her no moment to realize or think.
'Perfect.' She thought. She had been hit before. She had been beaten, tortured, cut open and sewn shut countless times. Nothing mattered anymore anyway.
She could hear her bones shattering. Pain taking over her slowly and she found herself fading. But she wasn't out yet and could feel all the beating.
"Another failure." His voice was a growl, low and venomous.
Sod wasn't finished yet.
His fingers curled into her hair, yanking her head back so she was forced to meet his gaze. There was nothing humane in his eyes anymore—only madness.
"You are worthless," he spat. "Useless."
Another strike. This time, a fist to her ribs. Amara gasped, her body curling inward as agony tore through her chest.
"You were supposed to be my greatest creation." A sharp kick to her stomach. "You were supposed to bring me an heir." A strike across her mouth. "You were supposed to be something!"
And the beating continued for who knows how long. Amara didn't realize when he left. Perhaps she had already collapsed. She only found herself in her vision later.
This time the vision or dream whatever it was, was more weirder than the one before. Yes not as horrific of course.
Amara saw two energies. One blue. One white. Both coming together and making something.. red? It's a small red ball. As some kind of magic ritual was being performed.
"Destroy it! That the hell have you two done?! Gosh no! Stop!" Someone yelled from behind.
Amara turned to look at the source of the voice. It's a big gathering. But something is off. Their language is weird. And so are their cloths. This place seems like a building with a large.. yard? Well.
She turned back to look at the energies. They are coming from two people. She couldn't really see or figure much. But one had a thick black braid and other had short black hair. So a man and a woman she imagined.
'What's going on..' she questioned in her heart. And suddenly the vision shifts. She saw herself standing behind Sod. A knife in hand and stabbing him nonstop. Of course he wasn't gonna die from it but something about this all seemed different. She seemed to be hurting him real. How was that even possible. Well who cares, she was enjoying it soo much.
All bloodied she walked out of the house and started running. It was all dense forest and she was running and running and a branch she didn't see in the dark of the night, stabbed her hard in the eye.
"AAAAAHHH!!" She cried in pain and the vision broke but the pain was there. She had actually got hit by a branch in her eye. She pulled it out slowly careful of not pulling her ball out. She screamed again as blood gushed out.
Well great, she already was dying of thirst. Just how thirsty someone should have to be to drool over own blood? Amara had the answer. The person had to be captivated and starved for as long as they can remember anymore.
She was blind in one eye now. But that wasn't important.
She.. was.. out?.. She was out..
"I'm.. out! Wait.. What? How?" She touched the trees. Yes, she wasn't dreaming nor this was some vision. So how did she got out?..
'Wait.. so I really stabbed him?... oh no! This is bad! I.. now what.. where do I go.. I need to go.. where but..' she sat down on the forest floor by the tree that just butchered her eye.
"I-I.. I'm like out? So I'm out? Free?" Her head was in her hands, hanging low on shoulders. "No no.. I must run.. he won't kill me! I must run! To.. to Westland, yes! Westland... yes yes.. death is waiting for me there.. I must run!" She got up and started running. Not caring at all about the direction she was going in nor it mattered in what condition her eye was.
Sod would soon rise up and start to hunt her. And will take her back to her prison to torture her like all the other times she had tried to run and he had captured her and then tortured her.
She had a goal. To die. She must end this life to get free from Sod and the misery.
Amara saw a cat in bushes. Her first instinct was to drain her to fix her eye, but, whats the use of that if she is going to Westland to die anyways.
'It's good to be weak. Now they can kill me more easily. Yes.' A smiled played on her lips and for the first time in lord knows how many decades she was smiling. As the ran past the trees piercing the air, she could feel it now. Freedom. She could sense it, she was way far from home now. Not home, better say lab. Or cage. She was far enough to feel safe.
And all the emotions shocked her. She wanted to die very first thing but she also wanted to stop in the tracts to enjoy her surroundings.
"No Amara, don't be silly. Sod will catch up if you stop. Let's taste this beauty in next life if there ever is, or afterlife if that too exist for me.."
She ran and ran and even when she reached that hazy line she still kept running. Across this line lived her enemies.
Amara is a vampire. A vampire whose story you'll soon read in the book. And Westland belong to the sworn enemies of the vampires. Yes, the werewolves.
She crossed the dense thick hazy border with such happiness, she was laughing.
"I'm here! I'm here! I made it! Yes! Yes! Yes!" She said jumping up and down. But her feet never stopped. She saw people. Soo many of them. All staring at her. Shocked. Afraid. Confused. But she? She was smiling ear to ear, with blood all over her face, making her look scary as hell.
The sun was up in the sky. Scorching hot and bright. And she must be the happiest vampire to stand there in sun and enjoy it. A vampire busking in sun. What a sight.
Soon as she has expected, children and women were crying in horror and men were trying to subdue her. She didn't resist a bit. She was ready.
'Now my wish will come true..'
The soldier arrived and took her to the largest building she had ever seen. Well perhaps there was one bigger than this one but how could she ever know.
She was held why two men on a stone platform situated right under the sun.
'Now whosegonna tell em it's sooo useless!'
"Kill it!"
"Kill it!"
"Kill it!"
The walls n floor were all vibrating from the roaring chants of the people. Amara could feel the vibration in her bones. It was so refreshing.
People were throwing rocks and garlic and she just really wanted to laugh. If only these were the things that could hurt her. Useless.
'Bring in the really deal! Whats with this rubbish!'
Someone very courageous came up to the stone platform she was held upon and walked up to her slowly.
"This b*** doesn't deserve any mercy! We shouldn't be afraid to hold the justice in name of all the ones she have killed!" And he slapped her hard. Her head went blank for a moment. Or perhaps two.
And then another slap. And then another..
'Yes.. this is what I was talking about..!'
It was painful. But she was used to of pain now. This wasn't something new to her. On the contrary she was enjoying it. These people could kill her for real and that was all she wanted.
But while she was enjoying the slaps, something suddenly twisted in her abdomen. Forcing a scream out of her and she collapsed to the ground holding her abdomen. The sudden loud painful screech made her slip out of the hold of her capturers. She was on the ground rolling in pain. Crying. No one understanding what really is happening. But no one dared to come close.
She felt as if she was cut open and someone was playing with her insides: tugging then pulling then yanking. She was on fire from inside; that what she was feeling. Extreme excruciating pain, making her cry above her lungs.
"What's happening here?" A voice came through the crowd. Surely Amara didn't realize anyone coming. She just knew she was finally dying somehow. But everyone fell silent. The man who had slapped Amara got down running.
Some one walked to her. She was in a muffled state not quite registering anyone. The comer held her face up. She met a pair of golden eyes. Brows tensed. Looking in her soul with confusion rather than hate.
People started chanting again.
"Kill her!"
"Kill her!"
"Kill her!"
The comer let go of her face and let her roll in pain on the hot stone under the scorching hot sun. Then after a momentary pause he roared.
"Silence!" And no one dared to say a thing. As if they had held their breaths too along with their tongues. "Everyone leave." This time the voice was little on the gentler side.
Although the whispers were still audible but everyone left.
Amara was shocked. But the pain was holding her back from uttering any word. The moment she opened her mouth a scream loud and painful could be heard from miles. Someone unfold her twisted body, her hands held tight away from her abdomen.
Between the screams she managed to say the words: "kill.. me!"
"Kill you? Oh.. if that's what you want.."
She could feel her smile amidst the pain.
"Lara! Take her to the North wing! And see to her needs!"
"Yes Sire... Sorry?! What.. But.."
"Are you questioning?"
"No Sire."
"Good."
But before Amara could reach anywhere, she passed out.
She was so sure she was dead. Of course. Nothing could get in her way now. She would finally be at peace after being in pieces for so long.
